It's Time to March. Or is it?
I'm sure I'm not alone in my despair, as I watch my country fall apart in every imaginable way possible.

I got up early this morning and did the usual Sunday morning routine - started up the coffee, got the kids dressed, turned the TV on, and logged in to DU. Maybe it's not the most uplifting way to start the day, but I like to be informed.

It's not to say that I haven't been aware of the multitude of crises that our country, and the world, faces....but for some reason, the way these issues were delivered to me this morning had my heart pounding, my hands getting sweaty, and my brain going into turbo overdrive.

In the course of about 20 minutes, I was reminded of the following:

~~ The war in Iraq is worsening, and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Our illustrious leaders <insert oozing sarcasm here> are continuing their agenda by indoctrinating Americans on the reasons why Iran is now a threat, and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ For the first time in years, we are deploying troops into Afghanistan again - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Plans are made, and being executed as I type this, to build US military bases in Turkey - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ The neocons continue Israeli support against Palestine, but condemns Carter and anyone else for trying to gather Israeli and Palestinian leaders together to talk - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Our own servicemen are being physically threatened by their superiors, if they voice their non-belief in God/Christianity - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ The Administration is holding up its collective middle finger and screaming a resounding "FUCK YOU" to the Geneva Convention while it continues torture tactics on detainees that they collected from a country we had no right in destroying and occupying - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ The oil prices are continuing upward, and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Because of the oil prices, Americans are forced to live in cold houses in the winter; drastically reduce their grocery budget; and go out for a drive ONLY when it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Because of the aforementioned inflation, companies are downsizing, and the numbers of unemployed Americans is growing rapidly by the day - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Auto loans, credit card debts and mortgage loans aren't getting paid - so people are losing their cars to repossession; their credit ratings are being destroyed; and they're being forced to foreclose on their homes. NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Scientists from around the globe have been warning us for DECADES that global warming and climate change is not something to be denied; yet, the US government is poo-pooing the issue. And NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Food shortages are apparent - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Millions of Americans are sick and dying and aren't getting the medical assistance they need - because our country is financially bankrupt from war with the Middle East. And NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Election fraud was brought to our attention in 2000; and again in 2004. And NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Our civil liberties and Constitutional rights are being taken away, one by one - and NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~ Our MSM has been horribly corrupted to a point where we are only being told what the Administration wants us to believe. And NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are 300 MILLION Americans, according to last census bureau reports. THREE HUNDRED MILLION AMERICANS. Why aren't WE doing anything about it?
We, the Democrats, reacted with jubilation and relief when the Dems took over the Congress and Senate. We thought that our elected representatives would do something about all of this; we've since learned that the joke is on us. We now know that we cannot count on them to repair the damage.
Imagine if even 5% of our nation's population showed up at the National Mall, bleeding out into Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues, and all the way down to the Federal Triangle. Fifteen million Americans. Can a highly visible, vocal dissent of that magnitude be ignored? Is it too late?
As the old adage goes....."It's not over until the fat lady sings". I don't think she has sung yet, but the theater lights are definitely dimming. We're running out of time, kids - if we're gonna fight back, we have to do it YESTERDAY. Time is of the essence.
1. Wow! What TV stations do you watch? All I heard was Hillary, Barack, Hillary, Barack...
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 10:53 AM by Breeze54
I didn't hear one thing about the wars or gas prices or Iran or any of that!
In fact, last night, as I watched the national news, I was amazed that there
doesn't seem to be any wars at all! Oh wait, they did report a bombing of the
President in Afghanistan but only briefly. It's all rosy and pink here, I guess. :sarcasm:
On edit: To answer your question:
And who can march anyway? I guess we could have little hometown marches but I think
the huge DC marching time may be over with the way the cost of living is soaring now.
People can't afford to drive to work, let alone drive to DC!
4. I think that's the point of the OP...
All we hear from the MSM is the Hillary/Barack show....
I want issues, and I want them now.
I'm tired of the MSM painting the world in terms of
the "Battle Royale"...
I think we need to start a movement to turn off
the MSM... and find objective sources for
news and information without being
'propagandized' a la Faux/MSNBC/CNN....
That's why I'd go mad without the internet..
8. I thought her point was that she was inundated with all bad news this morning.
My point was that wasn't on the national news at all!
6. That's why I posted today.
I don't know if it's feasible, but if it is, we gotta do it NOW.
Seriously. :(
And even if we do, there's no guarantee it will even SCUFF the conscience of anyone in power.
17. I can't say I've done it alot....
only three times.
Then again, to the ones I've been involved in, there were no more than 25,000 protestors.
That's why I rattled off the number of 15 MILLION. Five percent of our population - seems like a small number compared to the hundreds of millions who have had it up to here with how things are going; but a number like that is pretty formidable when you pack them all into a one place.
I'm just hypothesizing - I don't know what other alternative we have, other than one helluva mass protest.
21. Sorry.
But, it is all about Ralph Nader.
This is an election year and it's been four long years since Nader got any attention.
Welcome back, Ralph!
16. Kucinich tried to speak for the people on the important issues...
but we ignored him because the media told us to, WE are the enablers of what is taking place.
3. You have voiced just exactly what
most of us feel. Our only outlet may be a 6 or 7 million man/woman march on DC. Starting at 1600 Penn Ave and continuing on to the Hill. We have had 7-1/2 years of status quo. I had hoped to see great changes before I kick the bucket, but I will not count on it. I've already told my children what I want written on my tombstone: She Should Have Known Better.
10. here is a group ready to march!
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 01:03 PM by orangerevolution
www.recreate68.org.
Why don't you sign up?
"Welcome to the "Re-create 68" website, your virtual activists' Convergence Center for the Denver Democratic National Convention of 2008. This website was created for all the grassroots people who are tired of being sold out by the Democratic Party.
R-68 agrees with the proposition, POTESTAS IN POPULO, "all power comes from the people." What stands between the people and power are the party machines. The parties were devised as a means to represent the people. Today they represent nobody, not even party members, but only party bureaucracy. The people have been left without appropriate institutions for their representation. We intend to create those institutions!
Join us in the streets of Denver as we resist a two-party system that allows imperialism and racism to continue unrestrained."
11. What we are up against
is equivalent to the Mafia.
Our enemy is ruthless and will do anything...anything...to achieve it's goals. It ignores laws, morality, conscience and the rules of humanity.
We can march until hell freezes over and they will laugh at our indignation. We can sputter our outrage on the internet and they will ridicule our futile attempts to restore reason.
We are trying everything in our power to fight a losing battle. Can the Mafia be stopped? Can organized crime be stopped? Can the merchants of corruption, fear, destruction, greed and death be stopped?
Not by using the means we are using now. Until we accept who the enemy is, any and all weapons in our current resistance arsenal are useless.
And as for recreate68.....we are NOT stupid or ignorant. We know that the call for riots in Denver is the weapon of choice of the REPUBLICANS and we will NOT fall for it. We are not disenchanted with the DEMOCRATIC Party...we are repulsed by the REPUBLICAN party!
p.s.
Government is a social contract. They have broken their part of the bargain. We need to break our part (the part that finances them).
13. Okay....
I get what you're saying about the level of power these animals have on us. I get that - I truly do. And that's why I was hesitant about posting this morning - because it seemed to be a futile attempt at encouraging the masses to kick some ass in DC. Even if it's only the sheer magnitude of people converging in such a small area.
I sometimes do "what if" daydreaming. Other countries have conducted uprisings against their govt - as old-fashioned as it sounds, I'm not sure why, if sooooooo many Americans are repulsed by this administration, this hasn't happened.
I also think that people should be required to read the PNAC's "Rebuilding America's Defenses". I'm really getting tired of people telling me I'm a "tinfoil hat wearer" because of it - when most of the time, they've never bothered to read it. It is a manual of the PNAC's plans for the new century - and goddammit, they're right on target. It's hardly rocket science - but after reading it, and seeing who authored it, and realizing that the membership of the PNAC is largely involved in our current administration, I don't know how ANYBODY could brush it off. What has been happening these last 7 years was planned a LONG time ago, but apathetic America just sits on their hands and says "Well there's nothing we can do". Maybe they're right - who knows.
I gotta disagree with you, though, on this statement:
"We are not disenchanted with the DEMOCRATIC Party...we are repulsed by the REPUBLICAN party!"
I am EXTREMELY "disenchanted" with the Democratic Party - there's very few of them who seem to portray Democratic values.
15. You are absolutely right
I meant to say that I am not AS disenchanted with the Democratic Party as I am repulsed by the Republican party. I have been been waiting, day after day after day after day, for the MAJORITY party of the Congress to start acting like it and act in the name of the people.
The main goal of any repressive government, organization or entity is to DEFEAT their prey. They are very good at attempting to get us to the point of surrender through repeated disillusionment, disappointment and defeat.
But here is our weapon of choice - resistance to defeat. They can laugh at us, ridicule us, ignore us...but we will not be defeated. So we need to march on, educate ourselves, educate others, unite,and find our strength in each other. The power of the people, united, is unstoppable.
The power of the people, united, in a nationwide strike on May 1 would be the turning point.
14. In our ignorant complacency, we have completely forgotten what it meant to be an American.
I'm afraid that we are well past the time when protest will even be noticed, they sure as hell will not be covered by the media arms of our corporate masters, and they will continue to be ignored. We will, at some point, take action, I only hope it is before it is too late.
The thing is that, for a large majority, there simply isn't enough pain yet and most of those suffering are still unwilling to accept the reality of what's happening.
19. I agree with all your points, and about the urgency.
Anything positive that is being done is being done in the most "reasonable" and painless way possible. A balancing act between keeping their voters patient, and their benefactors happy.
20. Like Mike Malloy said the other nite
we are all passive and they made us helpless, and are we that willing to go off the cliff with them, and take everyone else with us? This thuggish regime has the American people right where they want us.
