Congeniality prevails for Democrats in debate

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN — Tony Raimondo was all about business and job creation Saturday, while Scott Kleeb emphasized the need for Nebraskans to work together to solve today's problems.

The two contenders for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination stressed their respective styles and agendas at their first, and perhaps last, debate before the May 13 primary.

Raimondo, 68, is the chairman of Behlen Manufacturing Co. in Columbus. He said one of his priorities would be revitalizing the U.S. economy.

"Creating jobs is what can take care of the social issues in life," Raimondo said. "If we don't pay our taxes (through) great jobs, we can't do the social things we all want to do."

Kleeb, 32, is a history instructor at Hastings College. He called on voters to ask more of their elected officials, more of themselves and more of their neighbors in finding solutions.

"We know that we work best when we work together," Kleeb said. "We know that personal responsibility is not just something we talk about but actually something we embody and something we strive for."

FULL story at link.

Note that Raimondo switched parties when the Republicans told him they didn't want him. He has given 10's of thousands in the past to the R party and candidates.

I talked to Scott this morning at the State AFL-CIO breakfast in Omaha. If you have a few extra $, he could use it. Our primary is fast approaching.
