4. It appears that 100mpg is only for the first gallon
50 mpg after that. It turns a hybrid into an all electric for about 15 miles. It does that by charging a bank of batteries from house current.

7. The average daily distance driven is under 50 miles
So essentially, except for extended trips, the "gas" mileage would be 100 miles per gallon.

5. What an insane interview and dumbass headline
Scratch that. It's a dumbass headline and interview. That is so NOT a 100 mpg car. Posters - turn on the critical thinking skills before posting!

6. GM is doing it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Volt

You can even buy a hybrid on the market and have it converted to a PHEV.

I think its prohibitively expensive now, but as battery tech comes along it'll get cheaper.

8. Its easy to get 100 mpg when the car isnt really running on gas.
They converted their car to plug in electric. It only runs on gas when the battery runs down.

9. About a 500 to 1000cc turbodiesel
In a PHV could satisfy probably 75 to 80 percent of the driving public in the right vehicle.

Run a small turbo diesel designed to maximize efficiency at a single rpm, drive a generator/battery pack/motor(s) combo and you could have a vehicle that would not only drive around town/neighborhood efficiently, but you could also take on vacation or a long commute and still be efficient.

We're talking medium sized motorcycle engine sizes..

Put a decent sized solar panel on your house and you could get several "free" miles or more per day depending on if you use a PHV or an electric assisted bicycle.

If you really want to maximize electric range, put a small trailer with a battery pack in it behind the car.. If you charge for a week or two off solar panels you could drive a reasonably long drive for "free".

The more batteries you pay for, the more plug in range you will have and the higher your electric drive percentage will be.

The trailer can even have its own motor so it doesn't slow you down.
