Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 09:58 PM by Radio_Lady
It's for acid reflux. OK. That works.

But what about how the announcer must PRONOUNCE it? The pronunciation guide would have to say:

ASS' - effects!!

or it could be:

ASS' - affects.

All in all, it's a pretty stupid name.

on edit: that's not quite true... When they advertise "Bayer, Back and Body" painkillers.. I always hear Bareback and Body.

5. I guess you're right, but now I see it spelled AcipHex...

it also appears pretty weird when written out -- which I just did today.

6. Don't know anything about its effectiveness. It could be the best drug in the world.

But I'm quibbling about the name.

Not the drug.

7. It will make you put down your paper
and look at the TV then you and your spouse will talk about it saying the name several times. Genius.

8. Actually, it made me think of other drugs that failed because of odd names...
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 09:50 PM by Radio_Lady
Wasn't one of them DAMITOL? A drug for anxiety?

I wasn't reading a paper.

My husband and I don't discuss drug names. It's not "his thing" --

I might have been eating alone and spewed some soup over the table!

All I wanted to do was shake the people who gave it this insipid name and those who ruled it was a GOOD and EFFECTIVE name.

I hope it doesn't AFFECT your ASS because I'm not going to be taking it!

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen Kimball

10. They changed the Aspercreme commercial
It used to be "you bet your sweet Aspercreme". I don't recall what the wording is now, but they aren't suggesting the "ass" anymore. Maybe the object is to make these commercials and product names sound so ridiculous that they get noticed. I'm certainly embarrassed that I even have this information rolling around in my head, but I do.

19. You bet, if it's aspercreme!
I think some prudes objected to the silly slogan, so they made them change it to so it wouldn't be funny, and wouldn't make sense.

16. maybe it's a hint that that "anal leakage" is one of the side effects?
Just like that drug that's supposed to absorb some of the fat you eat?

18. The fat product you mention is Olean or Olestra. That one went right through people...
and there was definite leakage.

There are still citations about that product on the Internet, but nothing really recent.
