Because I work around a large number of Republicans, one thing I have noticed is how they not only deny, but fear, being labeled things like a "racist" or "sexist."

I have heard all sorts of offensive comments and when bringing their attention to some of these offensive comments, these who make these offensive comments will go to great means to deny their prejudices. From offensive jokes to questionable comments, these people time and time again will argue not only that they are not these things, but try to justify their comments.

1. Maybe they are just joking. But them being Republicans, I'd tend to doubt it.

The cons that are racist or sexist (because despite the stereotype, not all conservatives are), when they say bigoted things seem incapable of understanding that what they said is bigoted.

Like one guy who said Obama's being black has nothing to do with why he wont' vote for the man..oh and Blacks are intellectually inferior to white people.

Or how affirmative action's purpose is outdated because there isn't any racism anymore.... AND that cons should have the right to fire or not hire solely because of race or gender or any other benign characteristic they want.

Or my favorite, "I'm not a homophobe. and F*Gs should have no more rights then the majority says they should. "

Really this works for any group: Gays, Blacks, Immigrants, Women, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Liberals.

I think to be a bigot, one has to have as little insight into one's self as possible. and Conservatives already disdain insight into themselves (too touchy feely, you know) so they are more prone to bigotry. They can't stop being bigots because they can't even recognize they are bigots. So calling them bigots has little to no effect since to them, to them they are just being unfairly attacked.

Just my theory.

5. That's like saying...
"You're ugly. But no offense".

11. Thanks
Too bad I have yet to find a way to make cons develop insight.

With cats, you can't discipline them directly because they wont' associate your treatment of them with any actions they did. But if you spray them while they are doing whatever it is you don't want them to do, they will figure out to stop eventually.

Unfortunately I don't know anything that like that that would work for conservatives. It' s not that they are stupid. It's they use their intelligence to prop up specific kinds of stupidity.

8. I've seen that also
they love the practice, but hate the labels--I don't know why. If they are going to do it, they might as well say it out loud and be proud.

10. I spent a lot of time with them, too...
...both in person at work and online.
I doubt many of them have any sense of humor oreven a faint idea that they may be wrong.
I read a few posts several months ago about elacting Obama so that,"...someone will shoot him." Also, many of these folks feel that the "media" is very leftist controlled and their REAL point of view never gets out to most Americans - who would, of course embrace it if only they knew the truth...

They are sick bastards, and I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this forum.
