BARNES AND NOBLE ADVERTISES ON RUSH LIMBAUGH'S WEBSITE!!!
How many of us are willing to put our money where our mouth is? At the bottom of RL's website is an ad for Barnes and Noble. In good conscience, it would be hard to shop there till they exit the site and stop supporting a guy who is destroying the fundamentals of our government.

1. Fuck B&N
One of their employees politically harassed a friend of mine. She complained and they gave her a $100 gift card and an apology. But the person still works there, and Glenn Beck's shit is displayed everywhere. Fuck B&N.

4. I used to work at B&N. I was in charge of the politics section.
I took great joy in making the books by people like Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity as inconspicuous as possible. You have to make the most of what little power you have in a shitty job like that.

If you can think of any other stuff, please start a thread about it; I'd love to know ways I can help out.

22. Do the stores have to put the little anti-theft sensor tags in the books, or do they come like that?
I wonder what would happen if someone neglected to put them in the conservative books and a bunch of liberals were informed that they could lift them right out of the store without the beeper going off, and the store didn't even notice they were gone and thus didn't order any more.

34. They come like that.
And even if you took them out, the store would know they were gone after doing their inventory, so they would order more.

7. You should put your money where your mouth is and shop locally anyway
Then you won't have to care that BN advertises with Rush in the first place and you'll help your local economy to boot.

Don't know what your local indie bookshop is? Go to booksense.com and find one.

That's my little PSA for today.

It's Schwartz books in Milwaukee, the best indie book shop around. Here for a long time and committed to the city. Thanks for mentioning that.

Those ads are served from an adserver. I wonder if the company or the ad agency is choosing the display locations. I suppose it doesn't matter in the end.

17. Barnes and Noble, supporter of Rush Limbaugh
I went to the B and N website and thought that this address was best one there. I have already written them to tell them that they have lost me as a customer. I am trusting that, when they get my email, they will forward it to the correct person if necessary. I also told them that, as of this afternoon, it was publicized online that they support the activities of Rush Limbaugh.

18. Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot
Back in the golden days at Borders, before they bacame B&N lite, they let us wear gigantic buttons which said that to promote Frankin's book.

That would never happen now. Borders may not advertise on BFI's show but they don't exactly go out of their way to work against him either.

I say boycott them, too. Just on principle.

In DC always do your book buying at Olsen's Books and Records.

20. I thought B&N was a "blue" company...
Regardless, I don't shop there anyway. But I do take advantage of their comfy chairs to study while I'm waiting for my bus transfer at the mall. I come in every day and never buy anything and no one seems to mind.

21. I can't find it now but I am pretty sure that B & N donates a great majority of their money to Dems.
As far as merchandising goes, you have to remember that B & N is a BUSINESS and their main purpose is to make money. Whether we like it or not, they need to do whatever they can to maximize sales regardless of the political affiliation of their employees. They, like Border's, where I used to work, are both fighting to stay afloat in the ever-changing retail environment. If that makes you not want to shop there, that is your decision to make. However, I must caution you about damaging their property as one poster suggested. From my understanding of the law, that could be considered stealing or "depriving a shop owner of receiving the true value of their product" or something like that. Besides that, it's just not right.

33. I just received a response from B&N. The say that the banner on the Rush site is not paid for.
"The banners on Mr. Limbaugh's website are available to participants in
our affiliate program. Barnes & Noble does not pay for these banners. The
affiliate program is an open network designed to allow websites to link
from their site to Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com) for the purpose of
selling books and other products we offer. Premiere Radio Networks, a
subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications, is a current participant in
our affiliate program. "
