Abortion Ban Killing Women in Nicaragua

The new law there has no exceptions, not even for saving the woman's life.

1. You're missing the upside. At least men have absolute control over a woman's sexuality and body!
Fucking barbarians.

20. hmmm... trying to think how that would work
oh, yes! Maybe some kind of monitoring device in the form of a nice jewel-toned ankle bracelet could be required for every pregnant woman. That way every move could be tracked and if anything indicated she was even CONSIDERING an abortion, she could be apprehended and thrown in jail until the birth of the baby and then executed.

Maybe, later, they could require one for every woman of child-bearing age and then maybe even a "starter monitor" for little girls - in pink, of course.

4. And birth control and sex education are not being fostered by the government
According to this assessment, the government succumbed to pressures from the Church and withdrew efforts to provide birth control and reproduction education. Nicaragua's population doubles every 10 years and it has the highest maternal mortality rate in Latin America. It wasn't that way under the Sandinistas.

But Nicaragua is an interesting microcosm to look to understand the dynamic that would be created in the United States (again) if abortion rights were ever curtailed.

18. yes, but it would be interesting to see how American men would deal with being widowers and single
fathers. Can you imagine the shit that would hit the fan once a few men lost their wives in childbirth or due to pregnancy complications and were then forced to care for the remaining children ALONE?

10. One of the comments: "Well, I think being arrested for Considering (sic) abortion is cool."
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 05:29 PM by Iris
This guy think it's ok to be arrested for considering abortion even if your life is in danger because "I think abortion is wrong."

Makes me want to punch his smug face. Or a wall. Or my own belly... uh-oh

Someone who reacts that way - to suggest people should be punished for their thoughts - well, no use getting into it with someone like that.

15. No... 82.
Since the ban was implemented in 2006, 82 women have died because they did not receive a life saving abortion.
