The Cult of Reagan never ceases to amaze me |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 07:11 AM by ck4829
Here is a paraphrased recent debate between a Republican and someone who knows his history.
First Guy: We have Reagan to thank for a lot of things... like giving weapons of mass destruction to Saddam.
Republican: But that would be like blaming Ford for someone running over another person with a truck!
The debate ended there because the Republican didn't want to debate anymore.
But seriously, I never knew that a deadly gas that indiscriminately causes your body's systems to fail, quite painfully too, could even be compared to a truck.
Ford would have to do this before it could be compared to a weapon of mass destruction: Modify your vehicle so that it could cause more damage upon impact And give you pointers on how to kill someone with your vehicle
But, Ford has never done something like that.
We are fighting Reagan's soldiers in Iraq, we are fighting Reagan's soldiers in Afghanistan, and we will see more innocent people die because of the Reagan Administration's oh-so-vast wisdom for many years to come, it will be a long time before our world can recover from his Administration.

1. Ray-gun was a Reich Wing criminal fuck just like the sons of bitches |

that have stolen the WH and who currently occupy it. He was filth. Just because he could ACT a little and come across as a reasonably nice old fart means NOTHING. He was filth.

9. The difference this time, I hope, is we'll stop them |
|
We've had a chance to neuter most of this cabal before but for some reason we didn't. Now today we find ourselves having to live with the chickens home for the roost. I say hang in there Granny cause we're gonna win this one come hell or high water and we'll have no choice but to stay hooked up once we get our hands on them this time. Our grandkids deserve our doing that. Plus today we have a better idea of who the criminals are behind the scenes.

14. We do...and I know this time, if there should be any of the kind of |
|
shit that's destroyed democracy in the last two (at least) presidential elections, I'll be doing as Miss Molly bid us, out in the streets banging pots and pans...or SOMETHING. God. I just don't want the sheeple to roll over and let these things happen, and I guess I don't know WHAT I'll do, but I'll have to do SOMETHING. Maybe move into Congressman Walz' office and stay there on hunger strike or something.

8. Simpler then...at least to simple minds |
|
Back in Reagan's day, they thought if Iran was bad, then Iraq must be good...let's give 'em guns. 20+ years later, they know less about who's who and why anybody does what they do. The blind support they get in this country is from the "kill 'em all" crowd, the ones who have no idea we've been making enemies in the region for 50 years, and that 9/11 was the first strike.

How bad is it when the man you idolize and think of as the greatest leader of the last century was in reality a sick man in a near state of dementia?

Some will say Democrats did the same thing with FDR in my parents generation or with JFK in mine...it was a myth that grew in time and would be transposed and confused to suit a person's perspective or agenda.
The Raygun myth was one hell of a PR job by the "communicable one" and his handlers. Raygun saw that when he shilled for GE and read the script, people threw money and love at him. He really never had any original ideas or convictions, but went where his handlers took him...and with it so went they myth/legend. It was many of these same handlers and script writers who soon infiltrated the corporate media and spread the myth to encompass a contemporary agenda. If the country was doing well economically...Raygun got the credit no matter how poor the economy really was during his time. If the country was attacked or threatened...it was WWRD...invade Iraq like he did with Grenada? Saber rattle at Iran like "standing down" the Soviet Union? It all fit a nice template totally divorced from history or reality.

13. They live in a parallel universe those Reaganbots. |
|
I don't look back fondly on the Reagan years at all. My husband was out of work for 2 years and what we survived on was the money we had banked and had hoped to use for a down payment on a house, which we never bought. For myself it took me over a year to find a decent job in downtown Chicago. A decent job back then was making about 5.50/hour.
On election night 1980, I knew that Reagan would be a disaster for the country. As my father had said "he was a lousy Grade B actor and a snitch for HUAC to boot".
Let's put it this way, Ronald Raygun is not even close to hold Jimmy Carter's shoes. RR never would win the Nobel Peace Prize. The entire world knew what a hypocrite and phony he was, the American people didn't and most of them still don't.
