Want to get rid of corn based ethanol, work to end Iowa's privilege
If Louisiana and/or Florida voted first in the presidential primaries we would have been doing this years ago. Unlike Brazil we don't have to clear land to plant sugar cane, there's plenty of unused sugar cane land right now, but as long as Iowa goes first we will continue to be held hostage to their corn.

Corn Can't Solve Our Problem

In Brazil, ethanol made from sugar cane produces about twice as much ethanol per acre as corn. Brazilian ethanol refineries get much of their power from burning cane residue, in effect recycling carbon from the atmosphere. The environmental benefit is large. Sugar-cane ethanol grown on established soils releases 80 percent less greenhouse gases than gasoline.

1. First off, using any sort of cropland to raise fuel crops on is stupid and won't work
Doesn't matter if it's corn or sugar cane, it won't work.

As far as Iowa having this huge mythical influence because it is the first primary state:rofl: Do you honestly think that? Don't you think that massive infusions of cash to both Democrats and Republicans from companies like ADL and Monsanto have more to do with the push behind ethanol? Like Iowa's primary position ever really got Iowa anything out of Congress:rofl:

2. ADM and Monsanto would never want to do anything outside of the midwest

sure.

We could try, maybe in '12 and '16 let Louisiana, Florida and Puerto Rico go first? I know for many in the country that is too many non-whites deciding things and the upittyness issue, but we could just try. I know how hard it is for people to let go of time honored traditions that go all the way back to 1976.
