Bob Cesca to MSM "Have You Left No Sense Of Decency?"
Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 09:06 AM by edhopper
I've been thinking the same thing, but Mr. Cesca states it very well here.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/have-you-left-no-sense-of_b_99244.html

"If the corporate media had been as diligent about watchdogging President Bush as they have been about watchdogging Reverend Wright, it's very likely we wouldn't have invaded Iraq.

If the corporate media had spent as much time exposing the obvious flaws and grotesque inequalities of Reaganomics throughout the last 30 years as they've spent on Wright, we wouldn't necessarily be staring into the maw of another depression."
.....

To moderators, I posted here instead of GDP because this is more about the media than Obama.

1. This shows a failure to understand the corporate media's role
It is to drum up business and boost shareholder value. War is good for business.

It can be no other way and we should expect nothing more or nothing less from the corporate media. We need to move on from this wishful thinking that it should be some other way.

4. Yes, but never underestimate its role in manufacturing the people's consent
Imagine this country's social climate absent the ever indoctrinating idiot box...

6. I just think we should be intellectually honest about what it is...
...instead of pretending it can be some other way.

The only other way is through non-commercial media.

2. does a dollar have a sense of decency? does a hammer? they talk about "the media" as if it's a
person. it's not. hell, Cesca works on the margins of "big media" and i'm sure had enough of experience (at least) as a "cub" to know that people have no power against the machine. the only reason Abrams and Olbermann are allowed to show any "decency" is b/c it's written into their business plan.

there's a totally unsexy but SIMPLE reason for this "lack of decency." it's deregulation. Reagan started it and there was a giant outcry. The Clinton administration finished the job, and again there was a giant outcry (remember the Telecommunications bill?).

i would surely love it if instead of the breast-beating, there were some courageous problem-solving. We The People own the airwaves. It's obscene that they are used against us.

3. Even more obscene, we are SELLING OFF our airwaves.
The public permanently loses more spectrum every year, and it's sold off for pennies on the dollar.

7. see -- it's not mysterious. it's really quite simple.
while i applaud Cesca's criticism, i'm really tired of how this is treated like some sort of impossible-to-understand craziness. it's not crazy -- it's designed this way.
