McCain Endorser Pastor John Hagee: God Curse and Doom America

By Bruce E. Wilson
April 30, 2008

"As a nation, America is under the curse of God, even now." That ominous slam at America came from Pastor John Hagee, whose endorsement Republican presidential candidate John McCain sought, secured, and recently affirmed to ABC News that he is "glad to have." Hagee claims God's "curse" and "doom" is upon America because of two key issues: reproductive freedom and broad support for the teaching of the theory of evolution...

Although Senator McCain recently told George Stephanopoulos in an interview that his seeking of Hagee's endorsement was "probably" a mistake, he then doubled back to affirm his approval of Hagee's endorsement, stating, "I'm glad to have it."...

If McCain did not know of Hagee's belief that God is against America, he should have: Hagee's pronouncement of God's "curse" and "doom" on our nation was not a passing comment. It was a major theme of Hagee's book, Day of Deception (1997). In fact, Hagee devotes a whole chapter to it. Here's the curse and doom quote in context:

In "America Under a Curse," a seventeen page chapter in Day of Deception, John Hagee wrote:
"As a nation, America is under the curse of God, even now. Look at the scriptures and see for yourself. The stand we have taken on abortion, the stand we have taken against God in our classrooms, just may have sealed or doom."

6. Rev. Wright has done a lot of good for people
Hagee only robs them. Therein lies the difference.

According to income tax statements that GETV filed with the Internal Revenue Service, the nonprofit organization drew $18.3 million in revenue in 2001, the most recent year the organization submitted a return to the IRS. That year, Hagee's total compensation package amounted to more than $1.25 million.

Like most nonprofit organizations, GETV is obligated to disclose its finances by making IRS income tax statements, called 990 forms, available to the public. In return for complying, it isn't required to pay income taxes on revenue, business and operation taxes and property taxes. It also receives a discount on bulk mailing.

And it is also able to sell products tax-free and at a 50 percent profit because selling religious books, tapes and albums fits within GETV's broadly stated mission, which is to "spread the gospel of Jesus Christ."

According to the 990 forms for GETV, the organization in 2001 netted $12.3 million from donations, $4.8 million in profit from the sales of books and tapes, and an additional $1.1 million from various other sources, including rental income.

As the nonprofit organization's president, Hagee drew $540,000 in compensation, as well as an additional $302,005 in compensation for his position as president of Cornerstone Church, according to GETV's tax statements.

He also received $411,561 in benefits from GETV, including contributions to a retirement package for highly paid executives the IRS calls a "rabbi trust," so named because the first beneficiary of such an irrevocable trust was a rabbi.

The John Hagee Rabbi Trust includes a $2.1 million 7,969-acre ranch outside Brackettville, with five lodges, including a "main lodge" and a gun locker. It also includes a manager's house, a smokehouse, a skeet range and three barns.

Taken together, his payment package, $842,005 in compensation and $414,485 in benefits, was one of the highest, if not the highest, pay package for a nonprofit director in the San Antonio area in 2001.

17. I agree about the "selling a nonexistent product" part but...
They are not all assholes like this guy in the OP or the other con artists that don't even

believe their own crap and steal money from gullible peoples.I frankly don't like organized

religions but some of those peoples like priests, nuns, pastors and so on are really in it

to do good.Think about Gandhi,Martin Luther King or Mother Teresa for example.

7. Well isn't that just TOO perfect! Talk about timing and all-
The country is hurling into the abyss and now we can
all know it is NOT because of the thugs and thieves-
who are planned and executed this
country's demise as they prepare to flee
to Paraguay and Dubai with the money they
fleeced from a trusting but ignorant public-
it is now being framed as GAWD's punishment...
Uh-huh.

15. "As a nation, America is under the curse of God"
If I believed in curses and all those other fairytales I would say that if America was under

the curse of God it would be for serious reasons like slavery, the genocide of the

Native Americans,Iraq, death squads in central and south America, the oppression of minorities and

the list goes on and on.

Nothing to do with the delirium of that bigoted idiot.

33. A lot of the people "outraged" by Wright believe in what this Hagee asshole is saying.
That's why it's not an issue. That's why no one is outraged. This jackass saying God is mad at America for aborton and evolution seems reasonable to too many people for it to really be an issue. Wright is black, he's loud, he's animated and he tells ugly truths, that's a story.

Hagee's comments about Jews and Catholics are better red meat than this.
