http://www.realnightmare.org/States are revolting against the Real ID Act that is scheduled to go into effect May 2008. This is nothing more than a federally mandated national ID card and it should outrage every American. Unfortunately, the complicit corporate media once again has done absolutely nothing to inform the public of this act and the real ramifications of it. The site above gives up to date information on states fighting it and calling for its repeal and other news regarding this blatant attack on the civil liberties of Americans (including guidelines put out by Der Homeland Security. From the listing of states that are currently fighting for repeal my state was not listed, so I will also be contacting my state legislature to let them know that I am vehemently opposed to this act and asking them to join other states in speaking out against this card that will be the first step to a Police State costing us billions of dollars that will also take away from state programs that benefit their citizens.
This must be overturned on the state level if Congress is not going to act in the best interests of it citizens to preserve our precious civil liberties. Especially since the bill passed in 2005 was sneakily part of a bill supporting troops in Iraq which reveals that those who voted for it knew what it was really all about and that it would never pass on its own merits.
