9. I sometimes pay to download from iTunes... |
|
...it's more convenient than going to a store and buying a CD with only one song I like.

I have Netflix, and I've bought music from iTunes and other online music stores, but I also download. I d/l "The Colbert Report" because it's easier than watching it when it's on, and since I pay for cable anyway, I don't feel guilty about it. My iPod does have a lot of pirated music on it, but mostly from artists that I support when I can, or new artists I'm not sure about yet.

7. Other: I don't download music because I don't really care about music, |
|
and I pay for movies through netflix because I don't really know how to download them for free (and don't have the inclination to figure out how).
That said, all the high-flying moral arguments in favor of file-sharing are bullshit - it's clearly a form of theft, and people who do it can go ahead and do it for all I care, but they ought to spine-up and own the deed...

If it is an old song, a classic rock track for instance, I download it. The artist has already cashed in long ago, and I do have some pocketbook issues. I view it in the same light as recording the song off the radio.
If it's a new release, I go to iTunes for it.

13. Only bootleg CD's and DVDs'. |
|
Mostly live shows and the occasional studio outtakes bootleg, none of them being commercially available. And should the same material be commercially available at a later date, I would probably buy it any way, because odds are that it's going to look or sound better than the boot version.
I do not download anything that I can buy in a retail store. But I have occasionally downloaded "leaked" commercial albums which are not YET available, just so I can hear it before I buy it.
