Take that Snotty Scotty! Yeah Move-on!
There are laws to prevent criminals from profiting by selling their stories. But after spending years defending the Bush administration and perpetuating the lies that led our country into war, Scott McClellan is poised to make bank—his tell-all book is a bestseller and he may make hundreds of thousands or millions.

Meanwhile, our troops are still dying in Iraq.

Coming clean is admirable. But McClellan shouldn't profit off the role he played in our nation's largest foreign policy blunder.

So we have a proposition for him. Let's call on him to donate all of the proceeds from his book to a group that helps Iraq veterans, like Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. If we make enough noise, he'll probably be asked about it on tomorrow's Sunday shows (he's on all three!)—so please sign on and pass this around. Clicking below will add your name:

http://pol.moveon.org/mcclellan/o.pl?id=12768-4090064-rPjebt&t=3

The petition reads:

People who helped lie this country into an unnecessary war should not be rewarded for it. Scott McClellan should donate all the proceeds from his book to a group that helps Iraq veterans—like Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Thanks for all you do.

2. The reality is, we need to encourage whistle-blowers
If part, or even all of their reason for coming forward is to collect a "reward", so be it. I want the truth to come out, even if someone ends up making a couple of bucks.

3. That isn't the case for most whistleblowers and you of all people should know that.
Criminal defense?

5. If someone reports a crime to collect the reward
Edited on Sat May-31-08 07:36 PM by DefenseLawyer
and someone else reports a crime just because he is a helluva guy, the result is the same. McClellan didn't have to say anything... ever. It's not like he's going to be able to retire off any money he makes from this book. Sure he could have come clean earlier, he could have refused to go along with it, but he didn't. How many of us can say we have always done the right thing in every situation? None of us can. So the question is, if someone makes a mistake and later tries to correct it, shouldn't we encourage the correction, rather than never forgiving the mistake?

7. No one said anything about not forgiving. You were talking whistleblowers.
Mistake, going along with 12 billion a month and now nearly 4100 Americans dead, more than 8 times that maimed, families ruined, housing ruined, country ruined oh and $10.00 a gallon and he remained quiet until now so he can sell a fucking book to pay for gas for his SUV? No thanks. That's the best defense you can offer?

9. I think you can find better targets for your rage
But hey, if you really think Scott McClellan was a key figure in bringing about the Iraq war, by all means, have at him.

4. He is not just a whistle-blower
His hands are bloody too.

Lying Scotty is still doing his job. This is not a "tell-all" book, he is still covering for the criminals and his boss, but making a fortune with a little teasing. He has told nothing that we here at DU didn't already know.

6. The average person has never heard of DU
I don't think DU was his target audience. And if you really think the administration thinks McClellan was "doing his job" by writing this book, then you are obviously have deeper knowledge into the workings of the shadow government than I do. I'm not ready to nominate the guy for sainthood, but I think you give credit where credit is due rather than pile on.

8. So let him show us what a man he is and concede the profits from the book to those men and women
he's helped destroy!
