In case anybody cares about the War anymore...
I attended the Winter Soldiers event at Town Hall in Seattle yesterday. Dunno how many people were there... perhaps 400. Lot of the usual old farts like me, but a sprinkling of younger people.

The young men - and women - who presented their stories truly represent the best in America.

The individual stories were heartbreaking, but not surprising, and similar to stories from the Vietnam War.

The final speaker was a VA shrink who noted that most of the people he treats for PTSD and other combat-related disorders could not participate, or even attend such a gathering, since their disorders are so incapacitating.

I had a good moment, tho. One of the guys presenting was a vet of Iraq, and from the same Marine regiment I served in so long ago. I told him that I'd been in Mike-3-7 about a thousand years ago and that we were brothers. He hugged me.

We just gotta quit making so many veterans.

2. My brother is a Vietnam vet...
It was only a couple of years ago that he could overcome his fear of crowds enough to attend a Seahawks game with me.

Yes, we need to stop making more vets. Just as important, though, we need to start properly providing for and caring for the ones we have now.

3. There are so many distractions today.. It's hard to break through.
I've watched a lot of the Winter Soldier testimony. It should be on Network news every night. This is the truth. This is what we are doing to these kids...

It is heart rending myth shattering stuff...

5. i do still care
and i think it is absolutely criminal that the winter soldier hearings are not getting any press. i watched the first weekend streaming on my computer, went to cspan to watch the hearing there (less than 500 people had watched it), and will now go directly to www.ivaw.org to see if yesterday's hearings are available yet.

these men and women are displaying an immense courage when they speak the truth. they need lots of support...as a matter of fact i have a few dollars today to donate, so i think i will do that as well.
