They are shiny enough to be silk shantung. They also may have little bumps in the weave, which would also indicate silk, not polyester. They drape nicely. The fabric is not stiff. Polyester crepe would not drape that well.

Just my guess.

There are fewer muscle connections between the head and the shoulders in the human than in the chimpanzee.
