60 Democratic Senators is a very real possibility
Alright, currently we have 51 Senators, though Lieberman is unreliable he does caucus with us.

There are two complete shoe-ins at the moment in Virginia and New Mexico. That takes us to 53.

Then there are two that have become quite likely in New Hampshire and Colorado(increasingly the Republican is looking like Mark Kennedy in Minnesota in 2006). That takes us to 55.

Then there are a whole series of close races that are roughly 50-50 propositions. These are Alaska, Minnesota, Mississippi(Trent Lott's old seat), Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon, and Texas. If we take, say, Alaska, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oregon, we are at 60. Bam. Done.

There are even a few more that appear partially competitive like Maine, Oklahoma even, and Nebraska is an outside chance.

This is an astonishing turn of events from 2004 when we looked at a Republican Senate delegation of 55.

1. That is why we don't need a Veep from the Senate.
We are close to a filibuster proof majority.

2. Depends on what state. If they come from a state with a Democratic governor it is fine.

8. Not really.
Depends on state law. Here in Wyoming, when Craig Thomas died, our Dem. Gov. Freidenthal had to appoint a Republican.

5. It all depends on the state they are from.
Most of the good choices have Dem governors.

6. so what? did you see this?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3372225

sure, sounds a bit harsh, but just how badly to we need some pols that represent anybody BUT the giant corporations? Like, I dunno, say....the PEOPLE????

more and more legalized bribery, anyone?

one last cheery note: even if they changed their spots completely, and started acting in our interests, it's TOO FREAKING LATE.

this last seven and a half years has done more damage to the constitution, the economy, the planet, than can ever be fixed. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. What they were good at was allowing a complete corporate takeover of just about everything, including, very importantly, the executive branch....not to say the judicial, too; lookit those judges that sit there. it's NOT becaused they're all het up about dumping Roe vs. Wade--that comes with the package--these monsters bush put on the bench are almost ALL laissez faire corpwhores--Federalist Society, anyone?

sit back and relax....watch Fascism 2.1 roll over us in the next few years, thanks, largely to the combination of big business/big government/big defense/big intel, and MOST of all big media.

we're so screwed
