I met a true blue Gay Republican this evening....

McCain supporter...Even though he hates Bush...Even though he voted for him 2 fucking times!

Doesn't support marriage equality.

Does support universal health care.

Yeah, it was bizarre.

But, not a wingnut, very good debater and willing to hear the other side. Stimulating conversation.

Still, bizarre, to say the least.

5. Bingo
That's what I got from it...although the supporting universal health care threw me. We talked for hours. It was sooooo odd. I don't even know any Repukes. Wacky.

31. Except really doesn't support universal health care b/c is voting for McCain.
I would think he'd have a permanent, raging headache from cognitive dissonance.

2. I've read this like five times and it makes no sense.
No to gay marriage, but yes to universal healthcare. Hates Bush but voted for him twice, loves McCain.

7. That's what I'm saying!
I couldn't wrap my brain around it...even though we got along famously. Bizarre.

9. Actually I kind of know the type
I had an AP econ teacher in high school that freely admitted that Reagan ran the economy into the ground, and yet fondly recalled voting for him twice. He also completely dismissed non-Keynesian economists like Laffer, which was also...odd? I loved that guy, though.

:hi:

14. Exactly...
I think we may end up being friends...if for nothing but the fantastic debate...I haven't encountered someone like him in a while. Sticks to his guns, willing to listen, logical...even though I think he's insane. It's neat. :D

10. True 'dat...
It was a trip! I'm not used to debating 'pukes, I never encounter them...And a gay one...Well, my mind was blown.

It was a wonderful intellectual exercise though, so it's all good.

6. Gays are welcome in the Repub party
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 12:45 AM by magellan
Just not openly. I don't understand how anyone could be happy voting against themselves (and listening to the crap the GOP and its supporters say publicly about them) but for many, I suspect money plays a large role.

edited another spelling mistake, I'm on a 'roll' tonight....

People easily lose sight of what's really important. Hope he gets his bearings before he accumulates more regrets than his personal wealth can salve.

He's not a complete 'puke, he agreed with me on several points. Can't quite figure out his angle, yet.

19. That would be so weird.

I would probably just keep asking how they could vote against their better interests. They'd explain it, and I'd ask again.

So strange.

23. re: marriage equality...
He wants all marriages to be civil marriages, which I agree with, but until then, doesn't support "gay" marriage. Don't ask me...He was...weird. SO hawt, gay, intelligent, charming, but....

I took care of his dog all night. That was nice. :)

I think we need to get the word 'marriage' out of the equation. His stance sounds like an oxymoron to me.

33. I know many don't agree with me, but.....
I think this society puts way too much weight on the word "marriage". I don't care what you call it, as long as all consenting adults are able to do legally do it. Words should never trump civil rights, even if the words have religious meaning to some.

26. I will find out...He was on foot, with his uber-purebred
welsh golden retreiver, or something. A fantastic pup, I took care of him while they were playing beer pong, walked him around the neighborhood, etc, so he wouldn't catch and eat the ping pong balls. :D

So well trained and sweet. Just a love of a dog...He was precious. His human...eh, the jury's still out on that.

He does love his dog though, so that's something. :)

I'm talking about the libertarian-leaning types, not the Christian "ex-gay" self-haters...
