McC thinks we're Republicans. |
|
My Sweetie got a form letter from Bush thanking her for her support (huh?) and reminding her that if the D.s win, "activist" judges will legalize gay marriage. So, I guess they are using that shit again.
Eight years ago with Al Gore being the sure D. nominee, Sweetie and I voted in the R. primary to support McC over Bush. This was before McC had spent 8 years kissing war-mongering ass. I guess Sweetie sent him some money too. Since then, we have been getting shit from McC. and the R.s.

3. As long as your last vote was for a Republican... |
|
You will be getting mail and phone calls from Republican candidates. The most current list of voters is from the last Presidential campaign. I don't think there's much you can do about that unless you want to contact each and every campaign and organization that gets in touch with you. Even then, it'd be tricky to take your name of their lists.
People who registered as Independent in 2004 will get it from both sides.

9. When you go to vote, you identify yourself before you go in the booth... |
|
The list that the poll workers use winds up at city hall (or your town hall or whatever). It can be bought by campaigns (pricey). That's what people go by when they're working in a phone bank

11. No, they don't. It goes by party affiliation. |
|
When a phonebanker gets a list of names and phone numbers, either (D), (R), or (I) will show up after your name. When you went to the polls to vote, you had to see someone first and identify yourself so they could make a note that you voted. (That's to make sure nobody votes twice). On this list you are identified by party. This is the list that goes to city hall, which is eventually bought by a campaign or two or three, and that's why you get phone calls from phonebankers and mail from the campaigns.

12. I see. We went back to D. when we moved later in 2000. |

In Ohio one declares party either when registering for the first time in a new location (or the first time period) or when requesting a ballot at the primary. Our 2000 vote for McC was only a short detour into enemy territory. At the time I figured McC vs. Al Gore would be a battle of Titans that the public could not lose. I naturally assumed Gore would wipe the floor with Bush. :(

13. It's different in every state |
|
I only know what it's like in NH. In fact, since I wrote my last post, I found out that the law has changed in NH regarding voter lists being sold to campaigns. I don't know enough about the change to comment, though.
I do know one thing that's true. Having an (I) next to your name is either a blessing or a curse, depending on which way you look at it. A campaign sees that as a person who can possibly be persuaded to either candidate, so you get hit with more calls.
