Sen. Kennedy out of 'successful' brain surgery
WASHINGTON — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy underwent what his doctors called successful surgery Monday to treat his cancerous brain tumor, and told his wife shortly after that he "felt like a million bucks," a family spokeswoman said.

The surgery at Duke University Medical Center took about 3? hours. He is expected to undergo chemotherapy and radiation in coming weeks. He is expected to remain at the North Carolina hospital for about a week.

8. I don't mean to place a dark cloud over this,
BUT
we could have predicted this "good news" news release, regardless of the results. I had a near and dear friend die of this tumor, and frankly, even with all our advances, these bastards grow so fast, and are so invasive that surgery is rarely the first choice. they can't get enough out, (too much damage to surrounding tissue) nor can they stop its rapid growth. Chemo, radiation, slow down the progression, but there is never a good long term prognosis. Never.

Damn.

10. Yep, I was pretty sure of that as well... But even if it does nothing else but...
give the Senator and his family hope, thats good enough for me.... When you give up, all is lost!

3. It was a hopeful sign
that his physicians felt that undergoing surgery gave him a chance.

And the fact that he was able to speak and joke after it is heartening!

Thank you for posting this -- I've been thinking about him.
