Has any one actually listened to Lionel for more than a half an hour? |
|
He's impenetrable. I have XM and got it specifically for AirAmerica. Over the last year and a half AAR has seemed to be on a jihad against every good liberal host with a grasp of reality and the ability to inform and entertain. Only Rachelle is left in the weekday line up. I have tried repeatedly to listen to Lionel's show, but find with RARE exception that he does an fair imitation of a 10 year old with a sever case of ADD. I cannot figure out what in the world this guy's "point" is. I usually end up listening to "The Power" on 169, instead regardless of whether I agree with Joe Madison on all things he at least carries a thought through for more than 3 minutes.
I really would like someone to explain this guy and his show to me. He seems totally incapable of staying on one topic, and most of his blather is an examination of the minutia that inhabits his mind, not anything to do with politics much less anything important to society from a cultural, artistic, educational perspective.

6. Short answer: AAR host from 9-12. But I think he had his own show in NYC |
|
Prior to AAR signing him. I really just don't "get" him.

There is no reason to listen to AAR anymore, except Rachel, and I can see her on MSNBC almost every night.

I can't get past that to anything he might be saying. So, I listen to Stephanie Miller in the morning.

23. like I said, never a regular listener |

but the few times I heard his show, he tended to be pretty much in the "skeptic rationalist" camp. Not necessarily comedy, although I thought he was funny at times.

So I have to ask: AAR matters...why?

16. AAR only matters, because of Rachel, Ring of Fire |
|
and a couple other weekend shows. I am holding on my my last fingernail just because I don't really see an alternative. I agree that they have gutted almost all of my favorites though.

13. I think he's like the vice presidential bucket of warm spit. |

He once spent the entire show several years ago going into excrutiating detail about a pilot who made a miraculous landing -- merely because the topic fascinated him.

I, too, got XM specifically for Air America. Now rarely listen to it in favor of POTUS channel.
Can stand Schultz for a bit longer - but not by much.
Hope they book Seder for the afternoon. Wish they could book Hatmann.
Listen to NOVA via computer in house.

21. Exactly, he comes on in the middle of the night.. |
|
where I live sometimes an hour or two. I cannot listen to him for very long and he usually brings up some subject and seems to never have callers. He says he is going to talk about one thing and then the next thing I know I am hearing something else.
This other guy also comes on from 9 til 11 and he is unbearable also, he now has something about 911 conspiracies or some other nonsense I can't stand to listen I have to turn them both off.

26. Lionel's perspective is this, I think... |
|
He views the radio business as NOT BEING a political science class at your local college. I think he believes that that is not the way to get the "average" Joe Sixpack to listen. He thinks radio is entertainment and that is what he tries to do.
I think he's probably "old school" when it comes to the business. I think he sees his job as not being that of an NPR...

32. Ok... Now we're having a conversation... |
|
but I wouldn't say Rachel is NPR (what with stuff like "Ask Dr. Maddow" and she is quite entertaining, Malloy, and Randi, were far from NPR or a poli-sci class but still managed to be informative and entertaining. I guess his rambling and seeming inability to stay on topic, stream of consciousness, is just not my cup of tea. I find surrealism difficult to "get" as well.
