Adobe Shockwave Flash BALKS AGAIN! When I go to a site, it tells me I don't have..

it and offers to install it.

(This post is a repeat of a former post in General Discussion -- somebody replied with three simple steps. I reinstalled it and it worked -- for a while. Darn! I can't find the reply -- Was it from you?)

1. Close all windows.
2. Uninstall/Remove the Adobe program from control panel.
3. Go to Adobe.com and reinstall.

Yesterday and today, I got messages from Comcast.net (The Fan), Zillow.com, YouTube.com and others.

Interestingly enough, this seems to be involving Internet Explorer browser only. If I go to the Firefox browser, I don't have this problem (but I have other problems....). Backstory: My husband bought a new computer, and I have inherited his older HP Pavilion 9680C. I also got this problem.

Anyone here want to help?

Thanks for your time.

RL

1. If it works in Firefox, then stick with it.
Dump IE. Use it only for Windows update..

IE has been identified as the buggiest and worst browser in Internet history.

3. Hi Hawkeye. Thanks... but I have a big problem with my Comcast email in Firefox.
I've talked with the Comcast folks directly, and there's nothing they can do about it -- apparently, they have tried to get the coding changed, but Firefox wouldn't agree.

When I compose a message in Comcast email with IE7, I can use a spell-checker (really useful!), highlighting, change type face and font size... It's a small toolbar, but very useful.

In Firefox, the Comcast email graphical interface comes up WITHOUT those capabilities. I can send messages, but they are " plain vanilla" and not very attractive.

I'll try it again on this computer (I have inherited my husband's HP Pentium, so it's a new machine to me).

FYI, my husband doesn't send complicated emails with "boilerplate" copy as I do -- but he had other problems with Firefox and has abandoned it, too.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Gratefully,

RL

6. Try Opera, and see if Comcast allows you to...
use POP3 email if Opera doesn't allow you to compose the way you want on webmail.

Opera also has its own email POP3 client (like Mozilla used to have) and an email program is the most convenient way I've found to deal with complicated emails.

7. As they say at the office..."I'm up to my ass in alligators..."

Thanks for the suggestion, but there is no time to try Opera this evening.

I can't remember -- Opera is another browser replacing IE7 -- Firefox? I don't even remember what I used to know about it. Maybe when I have more time.

Deeply grateful for your suggestion.

RL

PS. In case you don't know or remember it, the full quote is:

"When you're up to your ass in alligators, it is hard to remember that your original intention is to drain the swamp."

11. Why use Comcast web mail when you can use Mozilla Thunderbird Email?
Thunderbird goes with Foxfire.

14. Firefox does come with its own spell checkers.. if you see
a red line underneath - that's usually indicative of a spelling error, and just right click underneath that line and it'll give you the choice for the correct spelling.

It's your call - today is the last day we use Comcast as our ISP - I am switching to Qwest tomorrow.

2. If it works fine in Firefox but not in Internet Exploder
that should be a hint.

4. Firefox introduces other problems... see above.
It loads slowly and my husband ran into other drawbacks.

We both keep using IE7 for most of the personal work we do here at home.

5. I'm going to go away and do some tests...
Husband is out on some errands.

I'm clueless in resizing a picture in Photobucket.com that is TOO BIG to put in my DU signature. This is the original picture - the artist has given me permission to use it on this board.

Signature has to be less than 400 characters, 500 pixels wide, 200 pixels tall, and FILE SIZE less than 20 KB.

I've reduced it to what is supposed to be the required size and dimensions.

I can't seem to get this picture to do this.

Any help here would be appreciated...

8. Here you go...

200 wide by a little over 300, size chopped to 19.8k

Right click it and "Save image as..." or whatever it takes. :)

9. Since you can't see the words, maybe you can crop the pic
(which would make it even smaller) and type them out in a reduced font size.

13. I use Mac and I'm having the same problems with Adobe Flash.
The only thing that fixes it is completely dumping all user caches and rebooting my iMac. I've noticed it mostly when I've gone to the CNN site.

I'm using OS X 10.5.?? always updated on a 2Ghz iMac Aluminum with 4Gb RAM.
