About ten minutes from the Universal studio fires of yesterday.
Near Griffith Park.

13. I'm right by the LA equestrian center- only way I can stand living in LA... the horses.
Were it not for the horses, I would go quite mad living here.

16. I get that - I used to live in Chatsworth, in the north west section
where they still have horses. I had one too, boarded him across the street from where I lived, I mean, talk about convenient!

Ahhh... there's lots of that up here too, but I don't indulge in it anymore, but it's nice to know it's around.

All that concrete down there just makes me crazy (crazier).

2. Reeeally...? try $ 4.49... $ 18 got me a little more than 3 gals!!!!
I have gotten to the point where food and gas eats EVERY dime I have... My parents are helping me with utilities and even groceries at times. I worked 3 jobs last month and still broke even...good thing people donate clothes to us for my kids...forget about any fun stuff, I think I even see buying Ice cream or cookie mix as a luxury these days. we're so screwed...

I am ready to sell it all and go live in a tipi somewhere!

I am in the midst of cleaning out closets- I would love
to send what doesn't fit me anymore to fellow DUers who need things.
I have several wonderful items that I would love to pass on to good people.

Should we suggest a cyber "free box" to Skinner?
A forum where DUers could swap and barter?

and 150 for groceries

Oh and to the fixed income, looking at my bike right now...

I DON'T drive most of the week any longer

But I fear even my Monday meeting with my brother in law will have to move to the intertubes at this pace

6. We drive a compact and very little, but for the two of us our
gasoline expenses were about a third of our total of food, miscellaneous expenses and gas. That does not include mortgage and utilities. It's a third of our discretionary costs (if you think of food as discretionary). And we don't drive much at all.

but even those are getting expensive. It's still fun pedaling past the pump.

11. Excellent! I'm not driving much right now myself...
Most of what I need to do is local, so the bike is my friend.
I do need to drive tomorrow, thus my trip to the gas
station tonight to fill up @ $4.25 a gallon.
Obscene...

12. Not fixed income, but we gave up driving.
We're low income (really just trying to recover from the debts incurred from my last 2 years of national service) and we just don't drive much anymore.

My husband bikes 25 mi round-trip every day, and I ride the bus.

We're close enough to services and lucky enough to be able to limit driving to grocery runs and occasional trips to see family that we only need to fill up the tank about every 8-10 weeks. It's kind of a pain sometimes, but it's working so far.

14. Sounds like you are fairly well positioned to survive the shitstorm.
Being close to what you need is a good thing-
Can you imagine what the people in the remote "burbs" are
facing?

My sister for example, bought a house about thirty miles
outside of Dallas. She travels as part of her job and the
company pays for her gas on those trips, but I wonder how she manages
outside of those miles!

A woman I work with commutes about 40 miles each way every day...
YIKES!

19. Hello dear- on a side note...
The daughter accidentally took a double dose the other night.
Took one and forgot. Took another.
Turns out it was a very happy accident.
First time I've seen HER in ten months.
Talked to the doctor about it and she said "GREAT"
tell her to go ahead and take two!

I think we are on our way to getting her back.

Thanks again for all your support.
BTW, blood tests came back- thyroid was normal,
as was everything else.

Hugs,
BHN

20. funny thing though...I'm getting better gas mileage
because of less traffic on the road and everyone driving the speed limit.

I'm getting an extra 20 miles a tank. Unfortunately, I have a large 20 gallon tank. :(
