June 3, 2008 -- ARIZONA crime fighter Joe Arpaio, known as "America's Toughest Sheriff," paints an unflattering portrait of John McCain in his new book, "Joe's Law." Arpaio, known for cracking down on illegal immigrants and forcing inmates to wear pink, says he committed the unforgivable sin of endorsing George W. Bush for president in 2000 over favorite son McCain, The Post's Carl Campanile reports. "He has a reputation for holding a grudge, and he quickly developed a world-class doozy against me," Arpaio writes. "On a presidential visit to Arizona . . . McCain consciously turned his back on both the president and myself when we shook hands." He said McCain got revenge by supporting another candidate against him in a GOP primary during his re-election campaign. But Arpaio prevailed. "It seems a bit weird . . . that a US senator would get so involved in a county race for sheriff," Arpaio writes.

3. I'm waiting for it...

Think back a few months to the beginning of the primary season. Ron Paul said he was against the war, so there was this big Ron Paul love-in right here on DU. The people who adored Paul never quite got the notion that Paul was not only against the war, he was against pretty much everything Democrats stand for...but he was against the war so that was all right with them.

With this revelation that Joe Arpaio, the Boss Hogg of Arizona, hates John McCain, I really expect someone to start this huge Sheriff Joe Is Great campaign. And oh Gawd, don't let anyone find out the little maniac is running a no-kill shelter in one of his dungeons.

5. Sheriff Joe is considerably slimier than McCain--and that's saying a lot. I'm a longtime Zonie

and this is simply about politics. McCain wouldn't endorse Joe last election even though Joe practically begged him. It might be the one thing McCain's done with a smattering of integrity in 30 years.
