I'm going to the Nebraska State Democratic Convention!

I'll be an Obama delegate on the state level(and on to Denver IF elected). I'm still in the race for State Central Committee too. Odds are against me getting to Denver, but my friends in labor will be horse trading on my behalf. This is my second trip to the state convention.

That means Nebraskans generally and working Nebraskans especially will have wonderful representation.

As I recall, your wife was aiming to be a delegate as well? Will she be able to go also?

5. Have you gotten a list of all the delegates that will be voting within your district?
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 09:06 PM by LiberalFighter
Have you contacted all the delegates that intend to vote for the National Obama delegate?

Do you know how many others are running as an Obama delegate?

Are you a labor union person? If so, make sure to let every labor union leader in the district know especially your union.

Do you know what the rules are for voting at the state? Only elected Clinton county delegates voting for National Clinton delegates? Only elected Obama county delegates voting for National Obama delegates?

Do you know how many are alloted for your district?

If you haven't done so maybe in your resume you should also include your involvement in the DU Labor Forum.

7. I wasn't really looking for answers. More like guidance for you
to help you get the votes.

If you are in District 3 you will only have one chance of becoming a delegate.
District 1 you have 2 chances and District 2 you have either 2 or 3 chances of being a delegate.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO.... JUST VOTE FOR YOURSELF if there is 2 or 3 men that have slots in your district.

8. Oops

I was in a hurry when I posted that. I'm in the second. Gender neutral for the delegation by party rules. I'll let everybody know how it comes out.

10. Gender neutral for the delegation going to the state or National?
I'm sure it is gender neutral for the state delegation. But if you read the Nebraska National Convention info it indicates that the delegation shall be half men and half women. Which will mean that there will be at least 2 men and 2 women from your district as Obama delegates. As to the method Nebraska determines to use for the 5th delegate I don't know. I would think in your district they would have a vote for the Clinton delegate and whatever gender is of the winner would determine the gender of the 5th delegate. Or maybe the state delegates vote to decide that first and then vote for the delegates.

At our state convention we will have to declare our candidate preference and then vote only for those delegates seeking to be a delegate for that candidate. Obama supporters can only vote for Obama bound delegates and Clinton supporters only for Clinton bound delegates. (In this case bound is meant as traveling)

Your state might have rules requiring your county delegates to vote based on their county election. I noticed that Sarpy has their delegation broken down by candidates but Douglas does not.

Contact your county or district chair (which shouldn't be too difficult since Douglas and Sarpy are the only counties in your district). That person should know more of the details. AND provide you with a list of the delegates and their addresses so you can campaign.

12. It's a DNC rule

One of the women I plan to vote for was in first grade when she listened to her first fireside chat. She has never been to a National Democratic Convention even after years of volunteering.

Labor will back me for a couple of reasons.

14. You are making it confusing and I'm not sure you if you are mistating it
or not.

It might be gender neutral for the delegates to the state convention but not for the national delegation.

Rule 6A C

State Delegate Selection Plans shall provide for equal division between delegate men and
delegate women and alternate men and alternate women within the state’s entire convention
delegation. For purposes of this rule, the entire delegation includes all pledged delegates and alternates and unpledged delegates (including unpledged party leaders and elected official delegates and unpledged add-on delegates).

Labor might back you for a number of reasons but you still need to campaign for the spot if you are going to stand a chance. That might mean sending a letter to each state delegate. And trying to meet each of one of them since they mostly live in your county.

And to increase your odds if there isn't another labor union person running as a delegate it would do you good to encourage them to just vote for you instead of the 2 or 3 males for Obama.

Make sure you let your local union know that you are going as a state delegate and they via your district or regional may provide reimbursement of some expenses. The same if you are elected to national. Also, you should do some research to find out who are all the delegates from your Congressional district and know which ones are labor connected. And more importantly which ones will be eligible to vote for Obama delegates to Denver.

15. There will be one labor delegate per Congressional district

Labor will have a conference Friday night to choose one person from each district to run.

As for gender. I thought Nebraska rules echoed DNC rules on gender. I could be wrong.
