Has Anyone Suggested Rachel Maddow for V.P.? She is one super-sharp woman.
I know she is a political pundit/analyst, but damn, she's the smartest person covering politics today.

She's a graduate of Stanford with a degree in Public Policy, is a Rhodes Scholar and has a PhD in political science from Oxford.

This woman should be at least a candidate for Obama's administration. V.P. may be a stretch, but definitely, she's someone I'd be proud to have serving the Executive Branch.

1. No way! We NEED her in the media. She is a de facto public servant.
Maddow is the best thing to happen to radio and TV in years.

2. Agree -- she is a dynamo. she might be over-qualified for the veep
job.

Maybe Obama could hire her as a chief political strategist.

Her radio program is one of the best things to come along in ages.

3. Press Secretary?
Not really a good enough position for her, but coming out of journalism, it's hard to see her sliding right into any other spot. But...I like her where she is, without having to be beholden to anyone, able to tell it like it is.

12. Actually, if Obama's elected, we need someone credible to call BS...

or, as the promos on her AAR program tell it: "When the Democrats f**k up, we call them out on it."

This is a roundabout way of saying that no matter how much I believe Obama will be a great president, he'll have his share of screwups, too.

5. There have been young Vice Presidents before...
John Breckinridge was 36.
Richard Nixon was 40.
Dan Quayle was 41.
Teddy Roosevelt was 42.
Al Gore was 44.
Aaron Burr was 45.

Of course, with the exception of Gore, they were all paired up with older Presidential candidates.

Frankly, the bigger problem with Maddow would be her sexuality. That and the pointlessness of the Vice Presidency. Why should such a brilliant mind be saddled with such a position? Make her Chief of Staff if you're making her anything.

10. ooh... barely legal!
sounds naughty!

Ok, this is silly. I love me some Rachel. But she's not going to be appointed VP. Cool as that'd be.

Press secretary on the other hand--why not?

7. I don't even want to bring this up, but...
She is very openly gay. And while I love Rachel and support her 100%, I think that may be too much for a lot of people to accept. I'd love to see it, but I think it would hurt Obama's campaign.

16. We would be busy cleaning up the mess left by all the exploding heads from the Right...
An African-American president with a female gay VP...if that didn't start another civil war, nothing would.

Sounds good to me.
