Today in history: June 5, 1968 Robert Kennedy was shot, he died about 24 hours later

June 5, 1968 - Shortly after midnight, Robert Kennedy was shot after just finishing a speech in a California hotel. He had won the California primary and four others and seemed a shoo-in for the Democratic presidential nomination. He died about 24 hours after the shooting; Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of the assassination. Read more about the legacy of Bobby Kennedy at this link: http://www.kennedymemorialfoundation.com/index.asp?Type=B_LIST&SEC={EED9F04F-F434-4409-9664-6724B832C961} and http://www.rfkmemorial.org/rfk80th/

I went door to door for Bobby at the age of 11. I still have my volunteer button somewhere.

2. OMG! No way!
I was ten and that was my first political activity - talking to the neighbors about Bobby!

3. I came into the livingroom the morning after he was show, and
my mom and one of my sisters were there, with shocked looks on their faces.

"What?!?" I said.

My sister said, "Bobby's dead."

I slumped against the wall, and cried out, "No! No! You're wrong!"

My mom said, "Oh honey I wish we were."

I was devastated, and to this day, I still feel that way when the anniversary of that horrible day is upon us.

4. I hope Obama thinks long and hard about Martin, John and Bobby
before agreeing to any 'hall' meetings with unscrupulous men.

Another sad day in history.

5. According to Helen Thomas, not long before he left us, he predicted a black president in 30 years...
Of course he was about 10 years early in his predictions, but it does seem very fitting that we are realizing one of his visions so close to this sad anniversary. A testimony to his wisdom and view of the future ahead of us! Hoping Barack can help give us more hope of reviving those dreams he had!

6. Thom Hartmann and Lamar Waldron have a book coming out
this October that claims that organized crime and the KKK conspired to kill JFK, MLK and Bobby. It is "Legacy of Secrecy: The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination", I can't wait to read it. They claim that the information they used to write this book is readily available for anyone to put the pieces together.

7. E. Howard Hunt gave a deathbed confession about killing Jack
It goes without saying that whomever did in Jack, killed Bobby.

I don't think Hunt has any KKK ties, although he does have plenty of BushCo/CIA ties.
