GOPer strategy memo leaked
Per the good folks over at Think Progress
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/05/gop-strategy-memo-revealed-this-is-about-making-political-points-and-finger-pointing-over-blame/

At 11 p.m. last night, after Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shut down Senate debate on the Climate Security Act by forcing the 492-page bill to be read in full, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) revealed the existence of a GOP strategy memo on the climate debate. The anonymous memo, provided to Reid “by a lobbyist involved in Republican strategy meetings,” explains that their climate strategy is “much more on making political points” than “affecting policy.” See the memo at the Wonk Room.

This Climate bill is not the only bill for which GOPers have used this tacit. They have been using time wasting tactics each and every day this session. For GOPers it is party over country each and every time.

This notice also discloses that GOPers include their lobbyists in their strategy meetings. GOPers can't make a move without their puppetmasters.

15. this is something Democrats still need to learn how to do--make your points clearly even if you are
going to lose the vote.

Too often, their talking points are the final compromise version rather than the ideal they were shooting for (if they even tried to shoot for it).

Republicans do this with taxes all the time: however arcane the tax bill, they make it clear that their goal is lowering taxes.

2. If the Democrats had listened to my suggestions when I call them...
... then each bill would have been only one page long, and this would not have worked.

7. Five hundred pages for a climate bill which make very few changes
If instead of going for bully points GOPers were doing this to prove a point that bills are just too damn big, I may for the first time in a long which have a little respect for them.

But hey, when there is a choice between being productive and being scum, GOPers always grab for the scum.

12. Exactly. Reid just lets it look like the Dems aren't accomplishing anything
without allowing the public to see that it's the Republicans obstructing it. He needs to call their bluff and let them filibuster until the news can't not report it as such and the people see what is really going on.

5. Their goal has been to obstruct the agenda of a majority of Americans.
They obviously don't care what the results of the 2006 election conveyed. Instead of defining an anti-majority legislation, they are doing whatever they can do thwart the will of the majority.

This is the message that needs to be made in our Congressional campaign.

9. How does that idiocy make any political points?
It's not about making points; it's about making money for their lobbyist friends and themselves.

13. They get to say that a Dem controlled Congress is a Do Nothing Congress
They believe voters will base their votes on that nonsense.

It is hard to believe that they are spending so much effort on time wasting instead of pushing bills that send money to their lobbyists. And lobbyists are even in these meetings which promote time wasting.

Everyone is nuts in GOPer world.
