Why does the convention require so much loot? |
|
I heard the DNC has to raise something like $41 million for Denver... WHY so expensive? Do they host fancy events- lavish lunches or dinners? if the average family has to cut back on their lifestyle because of skyrocketing food and gas prices, is it possible to run a "lean-and-mean" convention? And if Americans are watching, do they really want to see party insiders living it up? I've forked over $$$ to Obama HAPPILY, but if I donate to the DNC, is it going to buy some delegate's lobster tail?
I'm not being snarky. I've never been to one, don't know how they are run. I just think a modest convention is wise in these times where many Americans are hurting.

1. They were going to hold 56 separate events (parties) |
|
and now they have to consolidate into only a few.

Face it, a multi-million dollar gala each night of the convention would cost no more than a small fraction of that wad. I suspect that there are some hefty speaker's fees for selected party insiders.

4. Remember that most of those delegates are volunteers who've given lots of time |
|
and work for the party.
I'm willing to allow them a bit of fun--maybe someday it'll be me... (siiigh...)

5. Figure renting out the convention Center for a week, $250 per day |
|
per person for all the people behind the scenes, utility bills, labor for set-up and breakdown, balloons, banners for the television backgrounds, etc. and it starts to add up pretty fast. Someone has to be there to hand out name tags, get delegates certifies etc.
I figure ast least $250 per day per person for hotel room plus meals.
