Bush misused Iraq intelligence: Senate report By Randall Mikkelsen
1 hour, 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and his top policymakers misstated Saddam Hussein's links to terrorism and ignored doubts among intelligence agencies about Iraq's arms programs as they made a case for war, the Senate intelligence committee reported on Thursday.

The report shows an administration that "led the nation to war on false premises," said the committee's Democratic Chairman, Sen. John Rockefeller of West Virginia. Several Republicans on the committee protested its findings as a "partisan exercise."

The committee studied major speeches by Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other officials in advance of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, and compared key assertions with intelligence available at the time...

1. Impeach? A president? For lying? About something that caused thousands of deaths?
I like it.

And we had best do it before the little shit tries to sneak by any more crap like the post on the front page.

7. Exactly. Let's get the show on the road, and throw the bums out!
Bush has never been qualified for the presidency, and this report just proves that he used his position not in the best interests of the American people, and did not protect the Constitution.

IMPEACH!

Little issues like genocide and looting the treasury are not considered impeachable offenses.

6. we still don't have the necessary votes.
but you know what? I think impeachment is too good for them. I want each and every complicit member of this lying, murderous, greedy administration, whether they already resigned or not, tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and I want them punished. impeachment doesn't get us that. not only have they nearly destroyed this country, but two others as well, and for that, international courts and punishments have to occur if this country ever hopes to regain some sort of international standing.

10. You don't *know* if we have the votes or not until the case is laid out & evidence presented
With so many repigs trying to distance themselves from the Bush Junta now, it may be possible, as they scramble to try to save their *own* jobs. Once impeachment proceedings are started, Bush won't be able to PARDON HIS CRONIES on his way out the door. People seem to forget that important aspect.

11. I agree with you.
I think at this point, impeachment won't do a thing. We've already moved on and Obama is President. I would like to see them tried for crimes against humanity or whatever we can do.

12. This is not only an impeachable offense, it is a war crime
There was no mistake here. The intelligence was never as faulty as the post-invasion spin made it out to be. The assertion that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction was simply not supported by the facts and those who said they were lied and knew they were lying.

I call for the United Nations to establish a special tribunal for the prosecution of war crimes in Iraq and crimes against humanity arising out of the so-called war on terror.

14. THEY
Have had ample grounds for impeachment for quite some time, they just don't have the nerve to try it. Absolutely indifferent to what is needed to heal this country and begin to make amends to the rest of the world for what our imbecilic president has done to them and us. First impeach both bush and cheney then turn them over to the hague in irons.

17. I Just Know I am Painting a Target on my Back
but I just can not resist.

Now I know that to a large group Bush and everything about him is the personification of evil.

But consider this historical fact. In late 1940 and through 1941, FDR was being as provocative as he could be in the north atlantic concerning german U-Boats with the aim of provoking the same sort of incident that caused our entry into the first world war.

This included the misuse of information (AKA: propaganda) to further his aims.

His actions concerning the Japanese were IMHO a lot moore defensible, but it is beyond dispute that FDR was goading the germans into causing an incident that he could use to cause us to either enter into the conflict in the ETO or expand or naval operations in the atlantic.

This in no way is in the same league as what the current president has done, I only point it out because Bush is by no way the first president to manipulate information in the desire to take this nation to war.

If Bush is to be impeached for this, than posthumous Impeachments of Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt (before Pearl Harbor), James Buchanan (in large part set up the civil war), James Polk (Mexican American War), McKinley (Spanish/American War) should also be impeached.

Just a little history thrown in for the heck of it.

Besides talking impeachment now when it just over 7 months before the shrubs term is going to end on it's own account is silly.

You would not even get the investigation of the house done, let alone a senate trial.

Plus you unite and get the back up of a lot of republican types that are going to be staying home on the first tuesday night of November watching basketball or some such instead of voting due to lack of interest.

Just my 2 cents.

:hi:

20. The ONLY reason I care to forgo impeachment is so the fucker can't
sign a signing statement pardoning himself and his loyal NAZI comrades. I prefer that he and the rest are charged when they no longer occupy the White House. Just so it's done.

22. Can he pardon him self??
I honestly do not know??

I though I heard Barack state a month or so ago that he would be in favor of investigations after he took office to see if in fact if any legitimate laws were broken (as opposed to difference of political opinions - which has been and will be argued) so that quote - unquote criminalizing politics is not done.

He stated that he would favor prosecution of legitimate law breakers.

Still I would be careful were I him of this international war tribunal idea it could back fire big time on him.

Just how popular (outside of the progressive community) would the population at large find the idea of a ex-president being tried in a foreign land, by foreign judges on things that one may have legitimate arguments as weather the things he is charged with are in fact crimes??

On the other hand if it can be shown after he left office that he did in fact violate the constitution with spying on citizens et-al, then I believe that the public would very much sanction trial and if need be imprisonment.

Still it is a dainty situation and should be treated as such.

Me I am an optimist, and believe that good will triumph, but it needs to be obtained in such a way that it is not perceived as a victors justice. If not we will sow the same seeds for the GOP as they sowed with us when they impeached Clinton. :hi:

25. We had a thread on this. They said he can. But I don't think so.
I think what prevents him from pardoning himself is one word. The word is "grant." That implies a transfer. You can't transfer something from yourself to yourself.
