In defense of John McCain (sort of).
John McCain spent six years as an American POW in the North Vietnamese prison camp known as the Hanoi Hilton. He was offered freedom because his father was an admiral, yet he refused it.

No American can help but respect and honor the horrors he survived because of his refusal to accept freedom.

The man whom I’ve described above deserves all the honor and respect that we can summon. But who is this man today? What has happened to this man since then?

Why has he turned his back on the maximum benefits owed to veterans? Why has he endorsed ongoing war, not only in Iraq, but in any other place we decide to invade? Why has he not called torture what it is? – Torture! – Who would know better than McCain the meaning of the word “torture?”

There’s so much more about this strange man. Why would he be all for tax cuts for the rich and screw everyone else? Why would he be against the maximum benefits we can give to out veterans? Why does he believe that women don’t have the right to make decisions about their own bodies? Why does he believe that prehistoric men such as Scalia and Alito are models for the Supreme Court justices he would select?

John McCain deserves honor for his service and suffering for the country. But that in no way makes him fit to be president. IMO, he lacks the judgment, the emotional stability, and the world view to occupy a position in which he can destroy the entire world by issuing one simple command.

Is this the man you really want to see holding the levers of power of the most powerful arsenal in the history of the world?

1. John McCain sold his soul on the dotted line
Like most of the people with any power in Washington.

Only the people who fought with him know whether he is worthy of his mythical title as a war hero...but he flushed any respect I have for that by authorizing the use of torture.

3. how could anybody who was tortured say it's okay to do it to others?
the man is a power-hungry thug with not one shred of honour or decency, whatever he may have been decades ago.

4. i think he's had a mini stroke or something
to my mind i see early signs of dementia, maybe i'm paranoid after the reagan debacle, but i don't put it past the GOP to put demented, easily controlled morons in the president's office, considering we've had reagan (alzheimer's), poppy (drug addict and just all around idiot), dubya (alcoholic, drug addict, and even worse idiot), for some reason they have a vested interest in selecting these puppets with heads full of cotton

i was interested to learn that even when young, mccain was not very bright and was bottom in his class, and mostly good for crashing planes -- his courage deserves respect but i don't think his judgment and intelligence have ever merited my respect

he does NOT belong in high office IMHO no matter how you feel about how hillary was treated, hillary would not be best served or well pleased to see mccain as president

5. Donte Baker was imprisoned 16 years for a rape he did not commit. Should he be President?
A Maple Heights man, who spent 16 years in prison for a rape he did not commit, was exonerated once again Friday.

A Cuyahoga County jury found Donte Booker, 40, not guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl. Booker grabbed his attorney in a bear hug as Common Pleas Judge Brian Corrigan read the verdicts -- not guilty on charges of rape, kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.

====

McCain has been honored and thanked for his service for decades. His experience was horrible. But thousands of Americans have been unjustly imprisoned in their own country for sometimes decades for crimes they did not commit. Nobody pays them a second thought, let alone think that they deserve to be President simply because of their sacrifices.

10. What I want to know is how does he get off touting his experience in a war
When he spent the war in a prison cell? What did he learn about fighting the war there?
