15. I just got all my animals housed
and battened down. I just came in and saw you were under the gun. It is getting awfully close to me now but nothing yet. I can't believe what it feels like out there and the wind! Lordy the wind! Wizard of Oz indeed! I have not seen Mrs. Gulch yet but it can't be long.

I can see the front line coming in, storms still aways away. Shelters are now open and people are going to them.

The radar over you looks terrible. I hope you are far from the worst of it.

I don't think I have ever yelled at my goats. Poor boys, they did not give me one bit of trouble coming in, they just looked at me kinda strangely.

Gotta go get things ready since I am alone I have 4 dogs to deal with. Satellite will not last long so if it goes out before I get back I will see you on the other side of this nasty line. Be well.

for your concern. This is really really nasty looking. Not the usual Kansas tornado kind of situation. Much worse. Greenbriar is in the middle of some really nasty looking radar images.

23. Ahhh Tom!
I owe you so many emails! I am so sorry I have been such a slacker lately.

Thanks so much. We did our dancing early to avoid this.

The storms are tilting, not good but that means it may be a little longer before I see them. I am hoping they poo out before they get here.

I am doing a songwriters-in-the-round tonight, but I will check in when I can.

But I am glad you got your dancing done before the storm.

I will be thinking good thoughts and flinging them your way.

You must tell me about the songwriters-in-the-round. I love your songs, I would guess you are quite popular. Have fun!

20. Thank goodness for tornado warnings!
I always appreciate advanced warning when it comes to a beast like a tornado.

Try and relax and go with it, but keep a close eye on your dog. If he gets to acting extra jittery, or just odd, be ready to clam him down if need be. Or restrain him if you must. Mine, which is deaf so I know she felt it and didn't hear it, went nuts a few weeks ago when we were under a tornado warning as the storm cell moved over us. I think it's it's because they're hyper sensitive to the sudden pressure change.

Stay safe! That's an order.

42. there were 35 tornadoes yesterday (Thur.) + 409 "severe storm reports"
I've been sending prayers throughout this awful storm situation that happened yesterday and am so happy to hear you are ok Greenbriar!

Here's the situation from Thursday's reports and at the link, you can see what happened in previous days, weeks too. Several days ago, there were 65 tornadoes so it's really been an active season so far with lots of damaging straight line winds, huge hail, etc:

44. according to scientists, these storms will increase in intensity
due to climate change. Good little read about tornadoes and climate change on "The Daily Green" (a good website for environmental news) here:

http://www.thedailygreen.com/environmental-news/latest/tornado-47060602

(excerpt)
There had been 1,258 tornadoes reported through May 30, a tally that nearly matches the 10-year average for an entire calendar year, according to Storm Prediction Center data. While the figure is inflated because some storms are reported twice, storm watchers say this is an extraordinary, if not unprecedented, tornado season.

The 112 reported deaths to date are significantly more than the death count seen in recent years. The 2008 tornado season is the deadliest in a decade and on pace to be the deadliest ever recorded in the United States.

This could be a harbinger of things to come. Some scientists have warned that global warming will create conditions that make violent tornadoes more frequent.

48. Actually that is not entirely true:
2008 Fatality Pace vs. 1998
1998: 125
2008: 113

We haven't matched 98 yet. But I bet we will before the end of the year.

sometimes followed by extremely violent spring/summer storms, it is all that hot air, cold air colliding thing...................
