Woman Dies Trying To Save Dog From Fire
Woman Dies Trying To Save Dog From Fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Firefighters said a woman was killed Saturday morning when she entered a burning mobile home to try and rescue a family pet.

The fire started at about 8:45 a.m. at the home on Maureen Boulevard, located on the city's south side, near Obetz, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

"By the time the fire department got here it was engulfed," said Rebecca Winland, a neighbor. "It was fire everywhere."

Firefighters said four people escaped the fire, but a woman who went back inside to get her dog did not make it back out.

"She got back to the door," said Hamilton Twp. Fire Chief Jerry Lupfer. "That's as far as she got. She never got outside the door."

1. I'd do the same thing. Maybe that's stupid, but hey.
I think most pet owners would.

3. I hate to say this, but if the trailer was "totally engulfed in flames"
the dog was probably a goner already. :-(

18. Yes. Pretty sad.
Projecting here, my dog would be outside, if capable. If he wasn't outside, he would be inside, dead already and no, I'm not going to kill myself also. My spouse and child would be very upset at that. Bad enough to lose our loved dog already.

4. There is no more noble way to die.
We all got to die sometime. Going to rescue your best friend your child is a better way than pissing yourself to death at 95.

The gates of heaven are open for her I hope they let the dog in to. O8)

19. A dog isn't a child
I'm not sure if you were comparing the two or not but losing your life to try and save a dogs is a shame.

21. Nice judgment there.
Since it isn't your life, and it isn't your pet (or even your child), maybe you can just keep your judgment to yourself.

6. She did what most people who love their pets would do.
I couldn't stand by as my dog was being burned to death, as stupid as it sounds I would attempt to rescue him/her.

12. We have 3 dogs and 5 cats
I'd have 8 chances to die because I'd keep going back in there until I got all 8 of them out.

God bless that woman - she's my hero.

13. Poor woman, poor family.
If I had to chose between entering a burning mobile home to save my dog, or saving my own life and staying with my spouse and family, I would not sacrifice myself. If my dog were alive, he'd be outside with me. Sorry, but won't sacrifice myself for my dead dog as I love the rest of my family too much.

That poor woman and family.

17. One of my worst worries since my divorce has been how to retool
an evacuation of a dog and six cats with only two hands. I still don't have a plan. :(

22. Open up the windows and doors -- they should run outside and away from the fire instinctively.

23. Sure! Need to plan for earthquake and tsunami, too.
I have 2 huge carriers, a dolly and bungee cords. If I have time to pack them up, I guess that's what I have to do. If not, the windows go open and I'll have to shoo them down the stairs. That's works for fire or earthquake. Tsunami, not so much.

24. You'd think so, right?
I came home one day to my fire alarm going off and my house FULL of smoke-no fire just smoke (ex had left chicken boiling on the stove, forgot about it and then went out of town). I no sooner crack the door (making sure it wasn't hot) and my cats are gone! The dogs waited until I had opened the door to the back yard and then just looked at me "Mom! We're so happy you're home! Let's play!" Dumb, sweet babies!

would hide. The little bingo bastards. :)
