A woman drowned today in my apartment complex pool.
I came home for lunch and there were cop cars and rescue vehicles.

Here's the story from our local NBC affiliate;
http://www.nbc-2.com/articles/readleearticle.asp?articleid=19735&z=14

The woman being interviewed in the video is my upstairs neighbor. This pool is literally 30 feet from my back door.

I don't believe I knew the victim, but we have a fair amount of snowbirds and seasonal residents that live here.

1. Oh, that's sad.
Yes, indeed, DON'T SWIM ALONE (especially if you are on medication, smoke, or are diabetic). I had a bad experience swimming alone once, and I am a strong swimmer and was in really good shape at the time. But there was an undercurrent (I was in Lake Michigan, just feet from the shore) and I lost my breath. Luckily I had some rocks to grab on to, but it was quite frightening.

3. A woman drowned in the pool at my house, too. Years ago, long before we moved here.
The realtor had to disclose that info to us by law. I try not to think about it, but it is a little creepy. Oh, and the pool was removed by a previous owner.

I'm so sorry about what happened at your apartment complex. Wow, that's awful. Can they install a fence or an alarm by your apartment pool or something?

4. It is fenced, but there is no life guard. I'm not sure how an alarm would have helped.
This was a 50 year old woman. One would think someone of that maturity would be safe in a small pool. It isn't Olympic sized, by any means. Probably 35' by 15' and maybe 7' at the deepest.

5. She must have blacked out or had a seizure or something
Or at least it SEEMS as if she probably must have.

The article suggests she was on medication, but who knows what happened. People are often in and around the pool till late at night but this happened this morning, in broad daylight.

May she rest in peace.
