6. He's gonna have to make a fairly solid pick
There's probably about 15% of the electorate that thinks he'll probably die during his first term.
So if his veep is someone who will make the electorate nervous he'll lose that 15% pretty sizeably.

9. I'm thinking Mike Bloomberg
to bring some economics acumen to the ticket (of which McCain has none). Also Bloomberg is kind of a less partisan and divisive figure- a sort of calmer and more rational counterbalance to the slightly insane McCain. And he may think that this would give him a chance to carry NY (nothing more than wishful thinking, however).
