Hey DU, how about we give Dennis a whole room of white roses!
I think the symbolism of white roses would be ENTIRELY appropriate, and consistent with what we've done in the past?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rose

Can we do this?

1. He'd probably prefer the money going to something useful
like Sea Shepherd, or Greenpeace, or some other thing of that nature.

6. Sea Shepherd would be good. Or some other animal-related charity.
Maybe an animal sanctuary.

16. Basically send the flowers to Kucinich to be able to take to the VA...
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 11:46 PM by calipendence
... or work with his office to have them sent there afterward if he doesn't have enough time with all of this impeachment stuff on his plate now.

But you allow all of the flowers to be collected in his office (and with it give him the publicity photo op) and then have the flowers sent to soldiers at the VA. Maybe even more explicitly do this than what was done with Helen Thomas (who also sent them to the VA hopital after the event was over).

17. Just trying to think of something specific to his concerns
I know he's big into animal and environmental issues - he's speaking at an AR conference I'm going to in August, and he and Mrs. Kucinich are both vegan.

Anyhow, a man standing in the middle of a room of flowers isn't a photo op, it's a punch line. It'd be pretty cool to adopt an animal in his name or pay to build a building at a sanctuary near DC (I think the closest one is Peaceful Prarie.) Better photo-op, something more him and it does some tangible good.

18. I guess I was trying to come up with an idea more directly related to impeachment...
Yes, he's also interested in helping out animal shelters, etc. too, which wouldn't be a bad thing either.

I was thinking of the symbolism of white flowers, which as noted in the link was symbolic of resistance to the Nazis in WWII. But if someone can come up with a better idea that also carries the same symbolism of resistance and is "constructive" I'm all for it too. Was just thinking of something that went with our tradition (of giving flowers to certain heroes of ours), which is also something we might have a bit more experience doing. I DO think that giving flowers to military families and wounded soldiers is a decent and constructive thing though!

Are we reflecting back on our flowers to Helen Thomas and Barbara Boxer and saying that it was the wrong thing (and wasteful) then too? If it's because they were women and Dennis is a man, perhaps isn't that seem a bit sexist too (though I know that what your saying is looking for something constructive which is a good thing)? Don't take my words wrong though. I'm certainly not calling anyone here sexist.

19. I think a lot of people pointed out the issues with flower drives in the past
and honestly, they're cliched (and as somebody joked in the past, somebody here must have stock in a florist.) Like I said, a more personal and tangible sign of appreciation might not be a bad thing.

15. But it could garner publicity.
Look how much attention the Helen Thomas flowers got. It just might be money well spent for the impeachment cause.

Point, but we could do what we did with Helen Thomas...
... and take the flowers over to give to vets at a VA hospital afterward or something like that. Vets these days need to get a lot of attention with the under reported suicide rates that are starting to leak to us now. Perhaps giving them some personalized notes and attention "care of Dennis Kucinich", would help show that we care about them too, and make the expense of this worth the money!

3. I imagine he'd prefer a donation in his name to some important cause.
He's pretty environmentally minded, and cut flowers are pretty wasteful.

7. Yeah, but donating to something else indicates an appreciation for his seeing the bigger picture.
Apparently his web donation page is pretty busy right now, somebody said it's not even coming up reliably. I'm sure a lot of people would do both. :)

11. I like this idea the best
He was targeted last cycle, I feel that it is safe to assume that he will be targeted even heavier the next cycle.

Kucinich for Congress! :kick:
