The Rainbow Flag.
Just about everyone here knows the rainbow flag represents the GLBT community. But many don't know what the colors mean and its history.

red - life
orange - healing
yellow - sunlight
green - nature
blue - serenity
violet - spirit

The rainbow flag (also (gay) pride flag and freedom flag is a symbol of LGBT pride and LGBT social movements in use since the 1970s. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride in LGBT rights marches. It originated in the United States, but is now used worldwide. Designed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978<1><2>, the design has undergone several revisions. As of 2008, the most common variant consists of six stripes, colored red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The flag is commonly flown horizontally, with the red stripe on top, as the colors would appear in a natural rainbow. It is heavily rumored that the idea of the rainbow came from the iconic movie star/singer Judy Garland's song "Over The Rainbow" from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz".

1. I knew that Gilbert Baker designed it.
I didn't know what the colors represents. And I have the rainbow flag as my avatar.

That's interesting.

And I very much like our flag. It's beautiful.

Thanks for posting this during Pride Month.

4. I think it is beautiful.
At the pride event in KC I bought a PRIDE bracelet. I have always wanted one but never got one since I am an ally. My friends told me I should be a PROUD ally so I bought one. Now if I could just keep it from falling off!

I love your flag. I never knew what the colors meant, never knew they meant anything and just learned there is an order to them. Thanks.
