Influencing Congress - a Conundrum
How can this be; we complain that Congress is a slave to lobbying money but at the same time we see that one of the strongest influences on our Government seems to be right wing Christians, who bring no lobbying money to the table?

One answer seems to be that in fact the religious right actually gets little but lip service from Government but that flies in the face of reason. Why would they be foolish enough to continue to support political figures who did not support them?

1. Why are they the religious right? I think the same answer applies to both questions. (nt)

2. I'll be god damned if I know - you'd think anyone would be smarter than that.

I'm don't really understand your comment but if you are asking what causes a person to swallow that religious bullshit I'd have to say that unfortunately some poor folks are just born simpletons.

3. Indeed. And therein lies the explanation, I think.
They're not very bright, they're fearful of the many things they don't understand, and so they seek the security of absolute values. Not unlike those Dems who, pathetically, hope that THIS time things will be different.

5. Rightwing Christians are an important part of their coalition.

A necessary evil to hold corporatism as default rule in place and allow for overturn of legal precedents and civil rights for laws for corporate rule in the legal system.
