America...three strikes and you are out... |
|
If John McCain wins the next election, that is the third strike on America. Do not look at anyone except the person in the mirror. In the year 2004, you had a chance to get a hit but you went to your knees swinging at a proverbial "curveball". Now we are in the bottom of the ninth inning.
We can follow John McCain's siren call for more tax cuts for Exxon Mobil and the big corporations and trillions of dollars of more debt. We can listen to the propaganda of trickle-down economics once again. The old axiom of "fool me once, shame on you" is no longer aplicable. It is now fool me three times and shame on America.
We can march to the polls on election day and thoughtlessly vote a straight Republican Party ticket. That is our team. We will either survive or we will go down fighting. And make no mistake, we will go down. There is no possible way to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
Or we can put in that skinny black kid, the rookie from Chicago, to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth. You can bury your racist thoughts and put the misogynistic anger on the bench or we will lose this game. It's your choice America. Three strikes and we are all out.

2. Be careful of sounding un-American. The no-prisoner's tone in silly |
|
season will have to be toned down if you want to win support. LBJ got away with it once ... we won't be fooled again.

And may a couple more that just troll. I would rather try to reach one of those than one of ours that is already committed. Obviously, they do not react to rational conversation or discussion.

I'm so sick of the hyper-judgmental tone we take with our own people. We're doing the best we can, as we can. Demeaning people has NEVER worked. Every bad parent that has ever existed sounded just like you in this post.
I'm at the point that I honestly don't give a damn what the world thinks. I want protectionism and a concern about OUR PEOPLE. Let someone else police the damned planet. We need to take care of our people and educate them, not spew cruel comments at them.
And anyway, no way will McCain win unless they steal it again.

6. Disturbing conversation yesterday |
|
With a committed Democrat ... a naturalized citizen ... a Hillary supporter. He will "punish" the Democratic Party by voting straight republican this year. Wow. I tried to reason with him but he is not interested.
He asked me to understand him and I said, "Sure. But I can't vote for McCain in good conscience. I have children."
He gave me a weak smile and then the demands of work ended the conversation.
Now, this is a good guy, and a very intelligent guy, and he is reacting from a very visceral level. The gender/racial undercurrents of this election cycle threaten to divide us at a time when, indeed, it is bottom of the ninth. The implications keep me awake at night. Here's a disturbing thought --- if we Democrats cannot handle these matters gracefully, who the hell can?
"Three strikes yer out" has another context these days. If we elect a man who continues to execute the essence of Bushista policy, the free nations of the world may well give up on us. We may well become regarded as a rogue nation that needs to be checked through political, economic, and even military means. McCain and the Rethugs promise other horrors for our nation. If we cannot come together in the face of all this shit, then I think we will get what we deserve.

and they will not vote for Obama. They will not listen to rational discussion. They will once again march in and vote for the Republican Party. Three strikes and I am out also. I will no longer waste my time fighting to improve a country that has a death wish.

But I doubt you can walk away from that struggle any more than I can. But I sure do know how ya feel, Sometimes, it is like standing on a hill over the rail road track watching the worst train wreck of your nightmares unfold in slow motion. Frustrating and painful. But do guys like us know how to avert our eyes, to cease shouting a warning?

This a a real close friend and colleague ... I hate to see him going down that road, on a personal level. On a more global level stuff like this gives me concern that we Americans have lost our ability to get our act together.

12. Your "committed" Democratic friend will wind up "punishing" himself and his family... |
|
..this sort of stupid bluster and bullshit is to be expected in the early days of the death of thewir candidates' campaign....it took me over a month to get over General Clark's withdrawal in '04...but I eventually got back on the horse, got with the programme and supported Kerry...
That will be the case with your friend in the long run I expect, the wounds are too fresh and the body is still warm....give them time...they'll come around..
I know of no true Democrat that would EVER vote for a rethuglican, especially in a Presidential election...they vote for the Dem or abstain...

13. So you went through the post Clark blues, too |
|
I, also, was a Clarkista in 2004. And while I was deeply disappointed in how that went down, I never entertained the notion of not voting or voting for (the stomache revolts at the mere thought) that buffoon in the White House. I was in the Edwards camp this year and we all know how that went.
His reaction is unreasoning, visceral ... and highly uncharacteristic of him. Me, I am giving him space on the subject while making my own position clear.
