$.32 ...a mile?
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 10:50 AM by underpants
I just happened to have the chance/opportunity/task of driving a 2004 Chevy Tahoe

it took 7 gallons to fill it up (a quarter tank empty) so that is a 28 gallon tank... @$4 a gallon =$112 per fill up.

If IF it gets 13 MPG = 364 miles per tank

or $.32 in COST (aside from maintenance, taxes, and insurance) PER MILE

this says 13 MPG City 17 Highway for a 2004 Chevy Tahoe
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/20400.shtml

My wife already gave me grief about my carbon footprint being higher.

1. Math isn't your strong suit I take it.
At $4 a gallon it would be .30 cents a mile 13 mpg divided by 4.

2. You got the decimal point wrong
Should read 112/364 not 364/112.

Answer: 31 cents/mile.

20. Close, but still wrong.
$0.31 is the correct answer. You're inverting your calculation.

7. Your math is WAAAAY off.
Keep it simple.

It gets 13MPG.

A gallon of gas costs $4.

So, for every $4 you go 13 miles.

$4 divided by 13 = $.307....or roughly 31 cents per mile.

22. Right answer, but should be calculated this way:
It's a 2004 Tahoe, gets 364 miles per tank at 17 mpg city. Costs $112 to fill, at $4 per gallon.

2004/364/17*(112-4)/112 = 0.312 or $.31 per mile.

16. Imagine our cars had coin slots on them
or card-swipers that allowed them to run.

Is it worth it? What's the true cost of getting to work?
