Seven-Point Lead for Obama in Virginia

Abstract: (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is ahead of Republican John McCain in Virginia, according a poll by SurveyUSA. 49 per cent of respondents in the Old Dominion State would vote for the Illinois senator, while 42 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is ahead of Republican John McCain in Virginia, according a poll by SurveyUSA. 49 per cent of respondents in the Old Dominion State would vote for the Illinois senator, while 42 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

Nine per cent of respondents are undecided.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Virginia’s 13 electoral votes, with 54 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried the Old Dominion State since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
