A subordinate group of people always knows more about the dominant group in |

their society than the dominant group knows about the subordinate group.
For example, slaves knew much more about their masters than vice versa. Same with a child with an abusive parent/caretaker. The child learns to "read" the caretaker, to figure out what kind of mood s/he's in, to avoid abuse/punishments. It's the same way at work.
It's all about power. The powerful have to be placated and the powerless are the placaters.
