I Don't Much Care That Impeachment Won't Happen. Why Trying Is Important |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 01:30 PM by berni_mccoy
- The World Sees that Many Americans, especially the Liberals, Care to Take a Stand and Do What is Just and Right.
- Americans See that Liberals Care to Take a Stand and Do What is Just and Right.
- Republicans See that Liberals Care to Take a Stand and Do What is Just and Right.
- Democrats, especially those who are afraid of the neocons, See that Liberals Care to Take a Stand and Do What is Just and Right.
History will indeed judge, not only Bush, but America. And Bush is Wrong. The Republicans are Wrong. They are Criminals.
And it will be recorded in the annals of History that Some of Us, the Liberals, chose to Take A STAND against the Evil wrought by Bush, his NeoCons and the Republicans.
And it will be recorded here, that many of us, wholeheartedly agreed to Take A STAND against this evil.
It's just as important that some are recognized for seeing and doing what is right than being able to succeed in doing the right thing.
We keep our souls that way.

Didn't do any good, did it?
Or maybe it did, but just a little bit. That's all we can expect, or hope, to do.

about, and what utter contempt they have for the American people. Remember the last impeachment? Non-stop coverage 24/7 by most (not all) major media outlets, ESPECIALLY the obvious ones.

20. I agree, but not with your reasoning |
|
It's got nothing to do with political parties or ideology, it has to do with the fundamental structure of government. Impeachment is the Legislature's Constitutional check against encroachment of power by the Executive. This Executive has clearly and unequivocally overreached and assumed powers reserved to the Congress by the Constitution (i.e. signing statements and nullification of treaty obligations).
It's not about Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative. It's about the separation of powers and the basic organization of our government under the Constitution.

21. In general, yes, you are correct. But I'm talking about this specific reason. And impeachment is a |
|
political tool, not a prosecutorial one. Prosecution for crimes would happen after the President is removed through Impeachment (unless pardoned by his successor).

Intentional acts of aggression and illegal war against a sovereign nation ought to be enough. :puke:
It is even worse when we know for a fact the White House manufactured and reported falsified information. :puke:Approves of torture.:puke:Uses hidden prisons.:puke:Hires private militias to profit from combat.:puke:Allows them to operate outside of military code of conduct.:puke:Used retired military officers to distribute scripted war propaganda.:puke: Outed a CIA agent for political gain. :puke: Laws are optional for the Bush Inc.:puke: GOP likes wars that are considered "global".:puke:
In the first decade of the 21st century, America and our elected officials act suspiciously indifferent and appear as accomplices to these glaring acts of shame. They are playing politics as usual, while we carefully preen our options for lacking the required principles to deliver ourselves from evil. No. History will not be kind to us.
And who knows what tomorrow brings? No justice...No peace.

Power corrupts and it seems the wealth and power of our country has allowed them to think they rule the world (in secret meetings behind closed doors dividing up the world). They are citizen representatives.

These are points I can agree with. If you go into impeachment with the idea that it doesn't matter whether it fails or not, then you won't be disappointed when it fails. My arguments have always been against the unrealistic ideas, such as impeachment is so simple that it is guaranteed to pass and will only take 2 days, or we have to impeach because Bush is going to destroy the world, etc.

I have been complaining about this very issue for quite some time. At what point did Americans become so comfortable with NOT fighting for what they supposedly believe in? Are we really that spoiled that we won't even enter a fight unless we are assured going in that we will be triumphant? Thank gawd our forefathers didn't feel that way or we would still be kissing the Queen's ass!
I am so tired of hearing the Dems in the House and Senate use "not having the votes" as an excuse to cower in the corner ever time the Republicans threaten to filibuster. C'mon... make them earn it. Make them get up and drone on for hours/days on end. Lets see if they really have the stomach for it? Just once I would love to see our elected officials care more about the issues than about protecting their political behinds. Maybe I am terribly naive' but I honestly expect more than that from them.
I keep coming back to a conversation I had with my father when I was a kid. He told me that if you didn't stand up for yourself or you let others push you around that you were just insuring that it would continue to happen. He assured me that in life we all have our share of battles that need to be fought; and that in the end it matters more that you fought them, then whether or not you won. Even if the Dems never win another political battle I want them, I expect them to at the VERY LEAST go down swinging.
