Does no one want to sign my petition?
I posted the link to the petition I wrote to raise awareness about North Korea's concentration camps. No one replied, and no one signed the petition. I find this odd...

To learn more about the seriousness of the problem you can read this article:http://www.harpers.org/media/pages/2002/11/pdf/HarpersMagazine-2002-11-0079371.pdf

to sign my petition the link is:

The Care2 site won't spam you

2. Here is the text of the petition. My primary goal is to alert congress that we are aware about it.
We, the undersigned, are asking you to bring this issue back to the senate for discussion. In July 2002, senators KENNEDY, ALLEN, and BROWNBACK hosted 3 North Korean refugees, survivors of North Korean prison camps, for a hearing before the Immigration Subcommittee. Since then, nothing has been accomplished toward rescuing these people. It is estimated that between more than 3 million people have died of starvation and murder in North Korea since 1990, more than 200,000 are enslaved in concentration camps, and up to up to 300,000 North Korean refugees are in China, hiding in fear of being captured and repatriated by China. Although a mission to save these people will be difficult, there are many things that we, the US, can do to help them. The first step should be dialog with China to reverse their deportation agreements with North Korea and the halting of goods manufactured in the camps from reaching the international marketplace through China. We believe that, during an election year, increasing awareness of this important issue will have more of an impact on policy. Indeed, all actions by representatives will be greatly appreciated by their constituents.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this issue. Many Kind Regards.

5. Well
unless we're subscribers to Harpers, we can't read the article. But more importantly, it's hard to imagine what an internet petition will accomplish.

15. I once attempted an unsuccessful poll about their effectiveness.
Like most of my threads, it sank like a rock tied up to rocks. ;)

13. Oh you're so nice, Jesuswasntafacist
Just so you know, I edited a couple of things - I changed dialog to "dialogue" and I had an editing error.

So anyway you three are just great. I just am having a hard time understanding how my post here at DU had over 100 views and only 3 people followed the link. Do you think it's because people don't believe there are real concentration camps in the world? I had a couple replies as you can see that stated that it won't help to have an online petition. I find that interesting, since many of our petitions fail, as do the many attempts of Kucinich et al. to put impeachment resolutions forward. I was really hoping people would read the article, too. I think awareness is the only way that we'll be able to put forth a serious effort.

I'm sending you a big ((((((((((hug))))))))))))
and a kiss!
Beth
