Who knew? Obama would NOT be our first black president
I missed this gem on the McLaughlin Report, but luckily Colbert caught it for us:

‘Colbert Report’: ThreatDown - Secret Negro Presidents?
By PoliJAM | June 10, 2008

Stephen Colbert: “John McLaughlin just revealed the bombshell that Warren G. Harding was a Negro…Who knows - with revelations like this John McCain could turn out to be our first straight, white male president.”

(has video of last night's Threatdown")

1. I've heard that before
When I saw your Original Message line, I tried remembering which president it was, but I could not remember.

3. Yeah, there was a rumor Harding, when he was running, descended from black Indians.
But I don't believe it.

8. He does look like he could have a little
American Indian in his heritage. From what I heard, the rumor came about because his opponent accused him of having Black blood, and he never denied it. Just ignored it.

As far as I'm concerned even if he was passing for white, he was accepted as white and that makes him white. Just as multi-racial persons that take on one identity and that is accepted as their ethnic group. Besides, I don't accept the one-drop-rule as being the true judgement of what group you MUST identify with or identified as. JMHO

13. Well, I am also very white.....pale....ruddy......
whatever, and I have American Indian in my heritage. My daughter kept calling me a liar until she saw a picture of my grandfather, and she had to admit that I was right. Anyway, yeah Harding is a white guy and there is no denying that. They will just do anything to take this moment away from us and Obama.

18. The article is very interesting.
The one story about the Blacks being driven out of the town reminds me of my childhood when I heard stories about the day that all the African Americans were driven out of our town/county. There was a big story that went with it and some of the older people talked about remembering when it was done. The story went that one family hid their servants in their cellar, and took them out of the county under the darkness of night to keep them safe from the mob. My father was one that repeated the story more than once as something that he had heard, but before his death when I asked him about it, he denied it. Saying there were no Blacks there because there was no industry there. How ludacris!! I did not believe him then and I do not believe it now. That town is still mostly racist and I don't even like revisiting it. It stopped being home to me a long time ago.

23. I doubt it.

because I believe it happened a lot, and I think people are denying it a lot now. Don't want to be held accountable for what their ancestors did. As far as I know my family did not have a part in this, in fact I don't even know if they lived in that town then, but then I didn't know that any of my ancestors owned slaves either. When my daughter did a search on them we found out different. It seems that in Illinois you could not buy or sell other human beings, but you could own them. :grr: We found one Inn keeper and one farmer that traveled south and brought back "workers". Whether they kept them as slaves or treated them other wise, I don't know but cannot say I am without any guilt in my heritage.

14. I hate that word also.
I heard someone call Obama that the other day and I thought my head was going to explode. Don't ask me who it was, it was on tv and I was not paying attention until I heard that as I was going out the door for a doctor's appointment. Yes, I leave the tv on for the dogs. It keeps them from getting so lonely. ;)

Yeah I liked it also. I use to wish I was a half-breed because I wanted to look more American Indian like my mother did. ;)

I think his head is ready to explode in merely contemplating an Obama presidency.

17. i have heard this also
there are allegedly 5 black presidents and 1 vice. remember this is anyone with even a drop of black blood was/is considered black. realize people passed all of the time back then some still do today.
t. jefferson, a jackson, a. lincoln, lincoln's vp hannibal hamlin and w. harding. also a hamilton.
also calvin coolidge.
you couldn't do this stuff nowadays in presidential politics. but, if you apply the one drop rule-there are some blacks in their family trees.

24. My mother's family passed .....
whether it was just the American Indian heritage they denied or whether there was more I don't know because we cannot trace back the one side past two generations. The one American Indian ancestor we found, but the one on the other side remains a mystery as does anything else that may be there. Makes you wonder where these people sprang up from.
