This isn't supposed to be a goddamned game. This is a democracy!

Hello, people. It's been awhile.

What prompted me to post, after a several month hiatus? The politics of politics, and the attitude that some members of DU cling to in regard to the impeachment of that son-of-a-bitch. I've read some threads and responses here, many in the past and a few today, about how impeaching Bush wouldn't be what is "in the best interest of the party." Those who extoll that sentiment couldn't be more wrong. What have we gained if we lose our soul? If we, as a society are so consumed with winning, that we are willing to let slide the criminal acts of a thoroughly dangerous administration, then we are no better than they are. It is a slope so slippery that no one will be able to stand on.

There is a reason we have a constitution. There are many great reasons as to why we must protect it with vigilance. We are nothing as a nation without it. We can NEVER afford to turn a blind eye to the willful dismantling of that document by anyone, be they democrat or republican. I don't care if it costs us votes, congressional seats or senate seats. The consequences of NOT impeaching Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors are far greater, in the long run, than any short term gain by not holding leadership accountable for their actions. How can those of you, who are against the war justify your position to the families of those soldiers who were directed to go to Iraq, but came home in body bags, or maimed for life?

I'm very thankful for Dennis Kucinich. God, I wish we had a House and Senate full of politically courageous men people like him. He takes his job seriously. He has taken his oath of office seriously, and he expects every politician who takes that oath to do the same. This isn't a game. That's something that people here and around the country needs to remember. Many here who made a home in GDP for the past several months seem to have forgotten that. The childish, scorched earth style of posting here is a microcosm of what politics has become on the grand scale. Pity.

Impeach Bush. Educate the naysayers. Win them over to the side of justice. End of story.

1. I'd love to see it, but I'm cynical enough to know it won't happen

6. I agree
Sometimes a courageous stand is what is needed. He is vetoing everything that comes to his desk, anyways. This might actually be doing something.

And the political climate is right. 20% approval ratings are hard to earn.

8. Actual removal from office may not happen,
but what MAY happen or is happening:

1. bringing to light every single crime and misdeameanor of the Bush Crime Family by offering this Resolution;

2. enlightening many many Congresspeople (and the public) who don't even at this point in time realize what this mob has done to the country (sadly, it's amazing how many elected officials have no clue);

3. put the resolution on record and get it into the congressional record, if not for now, for the future;

4. show that there are people in this country who understand what our Constitution really means and who are willing to stand up for our values, no matter if one person standing alone or a majority;

etc.

You have my deepest respect, Dennis Kucinich. You certainly aren't wasting MY time.

10. You and I both know that, if impeachment proceedings began tomorrow,

the clock would run out on the Bush presidency. But it is the proceeding that counts. It is the gathering and presentation of evidence that counts. It is the honoring of the constitutional duty to hold the president accountable for his crimes that counts. It is our democracy that counts. It is the legacy of remaining a country of laws that counts.
Let us do everything we can to keep Dennis Kucinich's efforts to keep us a free and just republic from being in vain.
