And I'm not looking for International law for the answers.I would have hoped that we would be strong enough to face our internal demons domestically.

Were not enough of our sacrosanct internal laws, values, and standards violated, that people would not demand: restoration, justice, - shit- SOMETHING?!

Otherwise we are just a degraded shadow of what we thought we were.

I think that's where we're at.

But be sure to wear a flag lapel pin tomorrow.

And do email your representatives and thank them for their inaction, cowardice, and passivity and for sparing us the inconvenience of fighting for our legacy and birthright.

2. Fool me once, shame on, uh, oh, fool me twice ........
......... we won't get fooled again.

Remember the hope we all felt in 2006 when we took back the Congress? I can't believe the spinelessness of those people. They were my best hope, and they fucked it up. As a Tangerine LaBamba, I am especially disappointed and disgusted at the dismal performance of Nancy Pelosi. I never expected much from Reid, but I had great hopes for Pelosi.

They fucked it up.

And we have no alternatives.

12. Who are the "many" who did?
I actually wasn't consciously trying to equate to Nazis (although obviously I did albeit unconsciously).

I was just trying to say that there are times that (should)commonly outrage any sentient being who claims to have even a shred of a moral compass.

4. Justice Robert H. Jackson, Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trial

“We must never forget that the record on which we judge these defendants today

is the record on which history will judge us tomorrow. To pass these

defendants a poisoned chalice is to put it to our own lips as well. We must

summon such detachment and intellectual integrity that this trial will commend

itself to posterity as fulfilling humanity's aspirations to do justice.”

Justice Robert H. Jackson
Opening speech at the first Nuremberg Trial, November 20, 1945

14. A few points.
Your historical analysis assumes that a) "the world" had not only picked Nürnberg as the location for war crimes trials before the war had even ended, b) had decided that the term "Nürnberg" was going to encapsulate the full breadth of Nazi war crimes (as in, "Gee, General Bradley, what are we going to do about Nürnberg?"), and c) "the world" prosecuted members of the German government and military, not just the Big Three and France; none of these are actually true. Also, the Iraq invasion and occupation does not equal Nazi conquest of continental Europe/North Africa and the Articles of Impeachment are not a military tribunal in which those found guilty are hanged.

Can I have my lapel pin now?

15. You're obviously much more informed than I - you know how to get the little dots over "Nurnberg"
and you also got the memo about how Nuremberg is now Nurnberg (with dots) - so I salute you.

I unthinkingly stepped into a morass with my comment - I wouldn't call it a "historical analysis".

My only thought was to say that while investigating and bringing to justice reprehensible agents of a state or a government would admittedly be messy and inconvenient and prolonged and protracted and politically inexpedient, that doesn't mean that they aren't worth pursuing for the pure moral worth and validation that such activity sets us apart from a "dark side" of agression without consequence or evil without repudiation.

22. Actually, based on the movie 'Judgement at Nuremberg' ...
... politics *did* play a large part in bringing the trials to a close. With the Cold War spinning-up and the West needing to retain West Germany as an ally, the Nuremberg trials began to represent a wedge between the West and the West German peoples and political pressure to end the trials and lighten rulings began.
