Legality of Calaveras Vacation Homes Debated
Legality of Calaveras Vacation Homes Debated
Written byPosted By: Tim Daly, Reporter

SAN ANDREAS, CA - It seems unlikely considering how many vacation homes there are in Calaveras County. But it turns out short-term stays in those homes are not allowed under existing county planning codes.

It's something a man who lives near Copperopolis recently discovered. Residents of the Tulloch Lake area are fed up with weekend visitors holding late and long parties. That's why the man was reading the codes in the first place.

He learned that the county doesn't currently allow homes to be used as quick-visit rentals.

That's why the Board of Supervisors' chambers were so crowded Tuesday in San Andreas. Dozens of residents complained that the parties are unacceptable and that the county codes need to be enforced.

Realtors and property managers were present as well, saying the county's economy couldn't handle such an enforcement.
