Nev. gov. sent 860 texts to woman in month

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080610/ap_on_re_us/nevada_governor_divorce

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Gov. Jim Gibbons, who is estranged from his wife, used his state cell phone to send more than 860 text messages in one month last year with a woman he says is a longtime friend, a newspaper reported.

Because the state didn't have a text messaging plan, each message cost 15 cents for a total of $130 during the March-April 2007 period when the messages were sent, according to documents obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal. Spokesman Ben Kieckhefer said Gibbons reimbursed the state for the charges.

1. Whenever I hear a story like this, my first thought is always
"Please, God, let him be a Republican."

Well... does God answer prayers?

8. and therefore
shouldn't you care?

So anything goes when it's the politicians hired by us? Look the other way at this, look the other way at much bigger forms of corruption.

11. oh bullshit. do you know the man wasnt paying it back? have they
implemented the policy no personal calls or texting on cell phones. he was called on it and he is paying and should pay here on out. at the LEAST i am not a hypocrit feeling right in stealing from employers. i know it is theft and dont do it. and even with that i dont see the huge outrage i am suppose to feel. there is plenty to be angry about. this isnt it.

13. sorry
but it's an indicator of how he operates.

I think there's a definite link between small sleaze and big sleaze. Have seen it over and over at every level of govt and business.

Maybe you just don't see the connection.

14. so as not to be a hypocrit... has ALL employees been checked to make sure they are NOT
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 09:57 AM by seabeyond
making any personal calls or personal text. are they reimbursing also. all those outraged here and now, as employees, are you off the internet during work hours, not making personal calls while on clock, not using a cell phone paid by work for any personal use.... ect...

also

it was bullshit to imply he was doing something morally wrong talking to "another" woman....

why is that even in the article.

if it was really on up and up and true outrage it would simply be the man is using his cell phone paid by taxes to personal text... end of story. but they want to make is juicier

i just cannot buy the outrage on it, but yawl want to hang 'im for it.... be my guest. really dont give a fig about the story. just amusing for years listening to people "excuse" their theft and rghteous indignation at it being called theft from employer to see it here applied to this situation

15. it isn't about relative morality...

--that's the adolescent "everybody does it" excuse. It's about what's right no matter what anybody else does.

You seem to have grievances about theft from employers, so it's hard to understand why you would condone it here.

I think it's FINE for newspapers to report abuses such as this. The problem is that they do it selectively. I want to see more public outing of any sort of administrative sleaze. Otherwise they just keep doing it.

It's called public trust.

7. that's an average of about 3 texts an hour for his waking hours
Sounds like the Governor has puppy love going on there.

I wonder what grade she's in.

The misuse of government resources is a nominal problem. He can pay that back. It's what it says about his head and where it's at that hurts him. Clearly, he's head over heels in love, acting a fool.
