GD-GD:P Introduce yourself THREAD!
Since there are so many "new" people to this forum, please use this thread to let others know something interesting about yourself.

I'll start: I'm a big fan of Stephen Colbert, truthiness and satire.

Okay, fellow DUers, your turn...

1. I love writing songs! A lot of them are about political and social issues!
I have a bunch on my myspace, www.myspace.com/davidbryantthemusicblind play guitar and keyboard. Sadly though, I can't sing :( BUT I do like guitar. In fact, I am late to my guitar lessons today! Hopefully I'll get a band together (I'm trying everything I can) and will make it famous one day. Who knows!

31. That was very nice. Thank you for sharing that with me.
I wasn't able to make out a lot of the lyrics. If you want to copy and paste them for me feel free! What instrument do you play or do you sing? Did you write the whole thing yourself or with the rest of your band?

So cool

:)

38. Here Ya Go...
I wrote the words and music to this:

Prohibition

I rob and steal to afford a little taste
Others think I'm infectious human waste
Prohibition
Under suspicion
Inquisition
Becomes a way of life

I seek my goods in a seedy neighborhood
I want to get high but I don't want to get shot
Prohibition
Contradiction
Cold partition
It's tearing us apart

The governments solution
Is the DEA
Spending tons of money
That you and I must pay
In taxes that fuel the lies
The politicians say
About a war they know they cannot win

I shoot my shit that's cut with who knows what
Kinds of poisons flowing through my blood

Prohibition
Ammunition
Execution
We're all expendable

Prohibition
False solution
No fruition
Will it ever end?

Or so I discerned.
And chocolate anything is most redeeming!

5. Hmm. I'm a former RW wacko from many years ago. I'm a closet
smoker, although I like to call it sneaking instead of smoking. I have a cat, a dog, a bird and 2 boys in their 20s. And I was a GD:Primaries addict. Looks like it's cold turkey day for that, though.

Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 12:33 PM by Sundoggy
Showed up here to find an old friend and stuck around because I have too much time on my hands here at work.

52 year old computer programmer, keyboardist, singer, microcontroller/robot developer, and inveterate lefty. Born in Oklahoma into a proud liberal family, I live in Texas now.

I'm not a jerk but am perfectly capable of acting like one, so I should fit in here, right? ;)

17. I'm female!
A lot of DUers seem to have the impression that I'm a beer-guzzling lawnmower-pushing suburban white guy. I have no idea where they get that idea....

I'm actually a very femme feminist lesbian pagan fishatarian who lives in a condo and grows tomatoes on my patio. And I have cats, natch. I don't own a lawnmower and I haven't had a drink in years.

I hope that everyone remembers this and I will take great umbrage if anyone forgets. Got that? lol!

18. OK, here goes...
:hi:

I'm a skeptical patriot, and was in middle school when RFK was killed and never really got over it, politically, until now, I hope.
I'm in McNerney's district and campaigned for him in his defeat of the evil Richard Pombo.

Obama is the first major party candidate who's gotten my full support (I liked Dean until he was buried for screaming).
I'm here because of the great company and intelligent (usually) dialogue and because DU is a great source of information.

I now live in Central California on the Delta, but studied and worked in NYC from the late 70's through late 80's.
I graduated from the Cooper Union and spent most of my time down in the East Village.
I think it's a shame the way Times Square has become "Disney-fied". As goes Times Square, so goes the nation. Oh, well.

I drive a Prius, boycott Starbucks and other chains, don't wear Birkenstocks, prefer Macs (have an iPhone and Macbook Air for work) and smoke way too much tobacco. I must quit, any tips?

I'm a "scanner", "career changer", alway drifting from one opportunity to another.

I presently work for a national non-profit energy education agency and coordinate a large-scale "solar energy in schools" program. Anyone involved in K-12 education in California who is interested in supporting teachers and schools with free workshops, science kits, teacher grants, and other resources for teaching about energy, solar energy, conservation, etc., should contact me.

Teachers rock. Kids rock.

And, my avatar is Ginny, a pound puppy and serious threat to the raccoons around here. Woof!

Enough about me, I look forward to hearing about you all.

Thanks for the post!

:hi:

And yes, what's up with the electric car?
Don't answer, I have the movie, unless you know more!

Hard to feel bad FoMoCo and GM stockholders and SUV sales plummet, isn't it?

Too bad their short-sighted choices are taking down our economy.

23. Got tired of waiting
so I built my own (conversion from a 1997 Ford Aspire):

http://www.aspire-ev.com

I've been driving it for two months now and it really pisses me off that a car like this is not on the market.

It's cheap to own and drive, low maintenance, the perfect errand car. I also own a minivan but rarely use it (last tank of gas I bought was in April).

25. Bravo!
Well done and worth the investment.
The climate for investors to develop and market electric cars can only become friendlier.

I, too, am surprised we aren't there yet. So sad.

I just posted an thread on the May 2001 presidential press briefing during which Ari Fleischer said "That's a big no." to a question about whether American lifestyles are part of the energy problem.

33. I...
grew up poor in a drug selling and abusing household, I lived in trailer parks or projects for the majority of my childhood and moved every couple of months... I spent my teen years being a punk and either drunk or loaded all the time... I am a high school graduate but I was not motivated enough to go to college (tried a few times but never made it through a semester)... I have VERY poor grammar and I cant spell worth a damn which sucks when posting on the internet. I have been politically interested for many years but never really "active" -- I have always felt that politicians lie and that our system is soo corrupt and broken that it cant be fixed... I don't watch the news much except for pbs (I don't have cable or i would watch msnbc)... At one time i thought of myself as an anarchist, now I consider myself an independent minded democrat... I am a network engineer currently working for a company that sells an internet/network security solution to school districts, before that i worked as a network admin in a school system for about 5 years... I was born in orange county ca and spent most of my childhood moving around southern california.. I have also lived in Oklahoma and most recently middle Tennessee for a few years before moving back to cali. I no longer drink or do any drugs (marijuana isn't a drug, right?)... I am one of those Obama elitist you hear so much about. :P
